Do I see another sweep looming, this time of Carolina and not by Carolina?
Like I said before, if I were Boston, I would be tossing the next. Break the curse!

Either way, I think Carolina has a chance of pulling out at least one win. They looked good tonight but just couldn’t capitalize on some fantastic chances.

Overtime and a mad scramble to win–and San Jose just did it! 5-4 and the series is 2-1 in the Sharks favor. Or maybe not, there is a challenge . . .
Something about a hand pass (?) but no whistle so the goal will stand and San Jose wins, no matter how upset St, Louis may be.
What I saw looked like a clean goal.

Watching it live, I thought for sure it would be called back. However, a hand pass is not reviewable, so once the refs skated off, it was clear that San Jose had just won.

Even the videos we have only get two looks at the play, and one of them sort of looks like it might have hit a Blues player. Even then, it is less clarity from the angle and more how the puck’s momentum seems to change just a little bit. I’d say it was weird by hand pass standards, but I don’t see anything in the rule to indicate that it wouldn’t have been one.

As for my own opinion, I feel weird. On the one hand, it feels like retribution for the even more obviously missed delay of game in the second. However, the way things ended, it’s hard not to feel bad for the Blues, even if it wasn’t a hand pass. I guess I hate them a little less now…

Of course, I’m never going to root for them, especially against the Sharks. One possibly blown call doesn’t make me a fan!

So at least one Blues fan is having fun with and doing good by last night’s controversial call. Personally, I’m interested in seeing how the players respond. I know the coach said that they’ve moved on, but I have my doubts, especially with Binnington.

One minute left in the third and Boston is up 4-0.
That’s it. Boston has swept Carolina.
That takes the last of the Wild Card teams out of the running.
Does Boston’s sweep of Carolina mean that Boston will get swept by the Western Conference Champion in the Cup round?

I can’t say for sure, but I am looking forward to see a team get its first Stanley Cup on a sweep.

Well, St. Louis just took San Jose out 5-0. That gives St. Louis the series lead 3 games to 2. Now we wait for Tuesday and see if San Jose can come back or if St. Louis can take their fourth game.

I missed the game today. Church and shopping kept me through the first couple periods. By the time I turned it on, there seemed no hope for San Jose, so I decided to catch up on other things.

That said: How bad did it look? I was always a bit concerned San Jose would run out of steam and/or fall into the trap of having the worst starting goalie in the playoffs (arguably league), and at least the stats and score seem to indicate one or both happened today.

That’s about how it looked. San Jose couldn’t put up a defense by goalie or defensemen and the offense couldn’t get their shots into St. Louis’ goal. Now for tonight and we’ll see if St. Louis is really that good or if it was just a fluke.

St. Louis is really that good. They’ve won the series 4 to 2 by defeating San Jose 5-1 in game six.

Boston/St. Louis…I don’t think it is possible to have a worse matchup in the Stanley Cup. No matter who wins, I’m going to be disappointed, either because the winning team has Marchand or because the winning team is the Blues.

I guess I’ll root for Boston. They at least have some redeemable qualities and are overall more entertaining.

I’ll stick with my conference’s team, the St. Louis Blues. If it can’t be the Predators, it might as well be the team that beat us (second hand, by beating the Dallas Stars). I guess that puts us on opposite sides.

Ouch! Looks like Boston took the first game.

Missed the game today. It sort of slipped my mind with going to see the A’s, even though I got home in time to watch the game. Well, I got home in time to catch the second and third periods after running out to get dinner.

Anyways, glad to see Boston won and broke the sweep curse.

I am rooting for the Blues. Sticking with my standard rule: when the Red Wings or Penguins aren’t in it, root for the team that has waited the longest for a championship. The Blues have never even won a game in the SC Finals (through Game 1 of this year’s finals).

Blues just took Game two in overtime 3-0. So no sweeps by anyone in the final series.

Oops! I just noticed that I hit the 0 instead of the 2 on my last post. The final overtime score should have been 3-2 not 3-0. (Hey, it only took me two days to notice my goof.)

So Sundqvist is out of Game 3. I guess we’ll see if the Blues stop hitting people in the head after that…I’d actually laugh at that joke if it weren’t so depressing…

At least the fourth game is more even than game three. It’s tied 2-2 at the middle of the third period. St. Louis is doing a much better job than they did in game three.
Nope, now it’s 3-2 in St. Louis’ favor.
Now it’s 4-2 and 30 seconds.
That’s it–series is tied at 2 games each.

Game 5 and it’s the end of the second period. St. Louis is leading 1-0. Boston just barely managed to block it becoming 2-0.
Half way through the third period and St. Louis has managed to get that second goal, so it’s 2-0.
Five more minutes to go and Boston has finally made its first goal, so its 2-1 with the Blues still leading.
That’s it. St. Louis just won Game Five 2-1 and now leads the series 3-2.

That one non-call on the St. Louis player was ridiculous. Should have been a trip. And it led directly to a Blues goal.

And I say this as I’m rooting for the Blues. (I’m a Red Wings fan, but they’ve stunk the last few years)
