That would be “Elaan of Troyus” (sic). He is carrying a pregnant high priestess up a hill into a cave because of dangerous conditions on the ground. The baby is delivered by Bones, and is later named Leonard James (or was it James Leonard?). Another good one is when he’s asked to help out Scotty with repairs in an emergency situation, and he states “Dammit Jim, I’m a doctor, not an engineer”. Scotty replies, “Now, you’re an engineer”.

Hello! With respect to you, and in the reluctant acknowledgement of my personal Star Trek geekness, the episode with the pregnant wife of the the tribal chieftan (was she a priestess, as well?) was “Friday’s Child.” “Elaan of Troysius” was the spoiled “princess” who was going to be wed to the son of her people’s archenemy’s royal family in order to secure a peace treaty. She could weep tears that if touched by a man he’d fall madly in love with her.

There was an episode with a priestess/witch, titled ,“A Private Little War,” who could seduce any man with her methods. She ends up stealing Kirk’s phaser and trying to pass it onto her tribe’s enemies, only to end up in a terrible position of her own making.

Finally, I do love that line about McCoy becoming an engineer! It was from “Mirror, Mirror,” when Scotty needs McCoy’s help to reconfigure certain engine systems in order to beam them out of the evil parallel universe.

Why yes, I do know my Catholic Faith as well as my Star Trek, why do you ask? 😉 👍

Thanks for the correction!! It’s been a few years since I’ve been able to watch any Star Trek episodes, as they’re only shown in the middle of the night here, and I haven’t been in a financial position to be able to buy them on DVD’s.

“Mirror, Mirror” is also a great episode! I LOVE Spock with a goatee. Definately was a good look on him. Reminds me of the episode “Omega Glory” where they natives thought that Spock was Satan.

Oh, just a question of curiosity, but during the Sign of Peace, when others flash the peace sign, do you ever flash back the Vulcan Salute? I’ve been known to do that on occasion… 😊

As a matter of fact, yes, I have done that!

We Star Trek fans are really on the same wavelength, aren’t we? :yup:

Nope… 😃 Would it surprise you that I also have a Vulcan IDIC tattoo, as well?

God Bless!

Nice to see that the young folk are still interested in the original series.👍

Does it bother anyone else that the new movie is a prequel? That’s Star Wars, not Star Trek, and I think it’s one of the reasons that Enterprise didn’t finish its full run. Star Trek has always been about exploration and going where no one has gone before. Also, I’m not really interested in going on another one of JJ Abrams’ acid trips, i.e. Alias, Lost. Would it shock anyone if the movie started out really well and then got completely confusing and nonsensical at the end?😃

IMO, it’s time for a new TV series- one that gets back to the exploration theme. Then, if it’s any good, start making movies based on that, rather than continually revisiting the past. Well, that’s my rant for the day.

Ricardo Montalban-RIP. “From hell’s heart, I stab at thee. For hate’s sake, I spit my last breath at thee.”

I definately have my mom to thank for that. She was 10 years old when TOS first was on the air, instantly fell in love with it, and has passed it on to me. The first movie I EVER was able to watch all the way through was The Voyage Home, when I was a wee tyke. I remember when I was 5 years old practicing until I was able to do the Vulcan Salute with both hands. And the IDIC was my first tattoo, when I was 18.

I am really hesitant about watching the new movie, not just because it’s a prequel, but I just cannot see anyone besides DeForest Kelly being Bones (or any of the actors of TOS being their respective characters). I will see it just so I do have a right to complain about it, but this will be the first movie I’m going to that I will not be in my Starfleet costume. Although my feeling about this “remake” is not just limited to Star Trek. I hate almost ALL remakes of classic films. I am somewhat hoping to eat crow on May 8, but at the same time, I’m hoping that the movie will flop, because I, too, think that a new series is in order. Why not a series about Capt. Benjamin Harris or around his time period? Or a completely new location, like Voyager?

cbs.com and imdb.com both will show season 1 eps via flash media…

imdb.com/title/tt0060028/episodes
worked for me.

As for the new movie… Zach Quinto pulls Spock off in the previews… the guy playing Bones doesn’t look too different… It will be interesting. If you can watch New Voyages on the web, this one will be probably no harder to take.
As a matter of fact, yes, I have done that!
not I…

not entirely…

but…

Immediately following the recessional for my wedding mass, the organist (a trek fan like myself) played the themes from star trek, as photos were being taken, papers signed, etc…

Thanks for the links!.. My current computer is 9 years old (I’m getting a new one in a couple of weeks, hopefully), and it doesn’t like videos too much, but I’ve e-mailed the links to myself, so I’ll have them when I upgrade.

I have only watched a few of the New Voyages, and really had a hard time with it. Which is probably why I’m really hesitant to watch the new Star Trek… I am trying my best to keep an open mind until I see it, though.

That is so GREAT! I love the music from Star Trek, especially from II, IV, and VI. I unsuccessfully tried to get my high school marching band do a Star Trek half-time show. The idea didn’t go over too well, but they didn’t seem to have a problem with Star Wars… 🤷

My favorite line (out of so many I can’t even count) from ST IV was as the crew (with the fully recovered Spock) were heading out to space dock to get their new ship; Sulu was hoping for one ship, Scotty was asking why on earth he wanted THAT bucket of bolts, and then I believe McCoy said, “The bureaucratic mentality is the only constant in the universe. We’re going to get a freighter” in a disgusted tone and then you see the lights come up on. . .The Enterprise, NCC1701-A.
The Excelsior.

And Sulu DID eventually get that ship; he was its captain in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.

The idea of a prequel bothered me until I read the complete premise: Romulans from after the *Nemesis *movie travel back in time and try to kill Kirk and his parents, but partially fail. This in turn alters everyhting from ships now being built on Earth to dealying Kirks entrance into the academy.

Angels and ministers of Grace, protect us from yet another Time Travel Trek story…

Yes, but I remember the quote from Dr. McCoy, not from Hamlet, tho’ Dr. McCoy is quoting Hamlet… 👍
True, but the next line was Spock saying, “Hamlet, act one, scene four”. I guess it’s a habit for me to finish that out every time I hear “Angels and ministers of grace…”… Not surprised by it though… I’ve seen IV about 50 times…

Irradiated, desiccated, zapped or turned to goo,
hail the unsung hero, lowly member of the crew.
Beaming down at Kirk’s request,
his function is to die.
(They very seldom bury him, and nobody will cry.)
And so he goes to heaven
with all his lines unsaid.
And his only euology?–
McCoy says, “Jim, he’s dead.”

(Sorry, I just had to quote this here.)

No apologies needed! I really like this. Did you write it?

ARUGH!!! Temporal tampering always gives me a headache, and I’ve got a beauty of a headache right now (quick, who said that?).
I believe the quote is “It’s a mystery, and I hate mysteries. They give me a bellyache and I’ve got a beauty right now.” Capt Kirk said it to Professor Crater in “The Man Trap”, when discussing why Crater asked for tablets of the one mineral that the dead crewman was missing, salt.

This is one of my favorite lines, obviously.

It also highlights the biggest difference between Kirk and Picard. Picard loved mysteries, and had a great knack of solving them. He loved using mystery novels as the basis for his holodeck programs.

Blessings

In analyzing the ship’s name, “maru” (literally, “round”) is a common second word in the name of Japanese ships. As for the Kobayashi part, as far as I can tell, the ship was names after Takeru Kobayashi, six-time winner of the Nathan’s hot-dog eating contest.

(Until someone else comes up with a better explanation 😛 )

DaveBj
I think the movie was released a little before Kobayashi achieved his hot-dog fame.
