I just browsed the article pretty quick. Could it be that there could be some truth in the lyrics about what is going on these days? Nevertheless, some people might take it to heart and totally misinterpret and that is the problem with her songs here. I would really have to look more into it.

Looks like more of an attention getting headline brought to you courtesy of the “fair and balanced” folks at Fox news. Sorry…Starbucks is still in my cup.

The way Robert Friedman is gushing over it, seems like he is forgetting she is a washed up musician! I doubt there are very many people who care what Joni Mitchell has to sat.

We can all do something. All you have to do is go to Starbucks’ website and send an email denouncing this anti-Catholic CD track by Joni Mitchell. I did this and it is pretty easy.
I don’t think we should all just sit by and shrug our shoulders. Get out in cyber space and protest!

Protest against the album will give MORE press exposure and thus more success to the musician and record company. Ignore the album, don’t feed the attention seeking monster that is the “superstar”.

Remember Jesus, and that whole “bearing wrongs patiently” thing 👍

Not mine.

Besides, it tastes like a forest fire.

Maybe I’m just a stupid mindless catholic, but those lyrics simply didn’t make any sense to me. I have no idea what she’s trying to say, therefore I don’t feel offended.

I am thankful that starbucks coffee makes me feel sick, I can’t have it and am not tempted to buy anything from there, although I like the cream soda they sometimes sell around here, but I could get it at other places.

I feel the same way. I hope many do, too. Hopefully everyone 😃

Doh! I started this same thread over on “Catholic News”.

Anyway, I wondered when Starbucks was going to carry the CD with anti-Semetic, Islamic, or Buddhist tracks on it. Oh…wait…

It’s just one more drop in the bucket, I guess. And another chance for us to all, as a previous poster suggested, imitate Christ and “bear wrongs patiently”

The last cup of Starbuck’s coffee I had was over 12 years ago. I still don’t know why I drank it—I was just sleepy again after three or four weeks.

I will say this much, though----I went around to all the Starbuck’s outlets in a 40-mile radius once and collected all their old coffee at the end of the day…put it in the crankcase of my old '92 Chevy Suburban, and man, did it run fine! I got probably 100,000 miles out of that sludge before I had to change it.

Best 30-weight oil I ever ran.

Funny,

I’m listening to Joni Mitchell as I read this. She happens to be my favorite singer-song writer and I really think she is and has been one of the most innovative and enduring artists ever. Her career has shown a constant ability to renew herself. We don’t hear too much about her, her songs are generally more complex and it doesn’t jive well with pop-culture that often likes catchy and simple and sometimes shallow.

I’m not going to give her up because we disagree about the Church.

If you examine her past lyrics you’ll see a very complex and emotional woman and a real poet. She seems to have something of an affinity for Jesus and has used biblical imagery quite well in the past. Her “Turbulent Indigo” track “The Sire of Sorrow: Job’s Sad Song” from the early 90’s is particularly striking and relies heavily on scripture.

I think there’s no doubt she’s been turned off by the Church. Something I obviously disagree with her on. But at the same, is any criticism of the Church irrelevant and worth boycotting? Shouldn’t we be concerned how we might be coming off to others?

Another contreversial song of hers about the Church is “Magdalene Launderies” detailing a particularly sad situation of Catholic social stigma in Ireland.
