However, in either case, she needs to get this matter straightened out. This is something for her particular diocese to handle. Furthermore, there may be more details that we are not privvy to know. Again, it is best to let the Church handle this.

Of course, I do know of one exception where marriage and celibacy collaborated rather well: the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Joseph, her most chaste spouse. But, that was indeed a rare situation.

Yes, I would generally agree. I have seen a few situations with annulments, however, and second marriages outside the Church, that were handled so badly by the officials involved, and so clearly went against what the Church taught, that I think people need to be very careful, and take the time to learn the rules themselves if at all possible.

I just got caught up on reading some of the replies and I thank all of you.

This is where I am at now…

I havent talked to my priest for quite a while on this matter as I am sitting with and praying on what to do next and the only thing I know for sure at this point is…

I am taking the RCIA classes this fall…
I am awaiting my first husband, whom I have been separated from since 1997, to handle the divorce because of my financial situation…just in case at some point myself and my common-law spouse of 9 years, decide we do want to marry…although we both currently living as brother and sister and are happy and want to keep it that way.

With regards to whether I am Catholic or not…I was baptized RC, but adopted at 15 mons into a non-church going Protestant family. I know very little about the faith, which is why I am taking the RCIA classes…but I do know this…I have thus far, been fed, as a result of attending mass every day (although not the Eucharist, of course)
So I dont know what to really call myself, but I dont think it matters.

After all that…I trust that under the guidance of my priest, who is under the guidance of the Bishop, that all the necessary steps will be taken should I decide to become confirmed and so forth…

I know it is a somewhat complicated situation…but I do really appreciate everyone trying to help me and I have recently begun taking spiritual communion with some prayers from suggestions on this thread and have found this to be most helpful…
I also feel…that with GOd as my guide…I will be able to someday be in full communion with CHrist…
