Thanks Patrick, for your good posts. Even i can learn something. Some are upset with me cause they think im in here “telling” them they cant bow to images. I havent told anyone to stop. I asked the question…Why bow in the face of the 2nd commandment.? Ive heard lots of convincing answers. Im supposed to meet a new friend in here. What happened to him?
Don’t worry about your friend, you’re in good hands with everyone here on these forums… Welcome to CAF, friend. 🙂

All we have to do is define worship and then we know if are or are not doing it.

I have to wonder sometimes when I see the vast time, energy, praise & prayer to Mary and nothing significant to our savior Jesus Christ.

Every week, day, hour, half hour, fifteen minutes around the world in every country, language, culture…the Catholic Mass.

:heart:TRUE WORSHIP:heart:

Not to mention, adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, Transfiguration Sunday, Divine Mercy Sunday, The Feast of Corpus Christi, The Triduem, culminating in The Easter Vigil…This is what we are MADE for!!

This is where we are Home.

Having a Blessed Mother is just one of the fringe benefits.

Do you really think honoring the Mother of God is against His will? Even Christ is obedient to her.

Here’s the thing: we don’t pray to Mary in the same way we pray to God. When we ask Mary, or any saint, to do something for us, we ask them to do it by the power of God (this is by default, as they are with God and all they have comes from God). Every time we honor God’s friends, we honor Him as well.

Also, we worship the Trinity every time we say the Mass, which is the highest prayer we have. Do you ever listen to the words at Mass? How many times Jesus’s name is mentioned? The words of praise and glory we offer to Him? Come on, man. Wake up.

Catholics do not believe that saints have godlike powers. We believe that they are with God and glorify God, and that they are advocates for us in Heaven and help us by His grace and glory.

Are you sure you’re Catholic?

I think I know what he means, though. In the Latin american countries and Italy, etc., what you see in the media are the Marian festivals. But, The Mass, etc. are also going on there, and the great devotion to Our Mother wouldn’t be there without our GREAT LOVE for the Lord!

Yes, it all stems from love of God. And I should have said ‘Christ was obedient to her while they were together on Earth (Wedding at Cana)’. At the same time, she knew who He was and was obedient to Him. He was the perfect man and God, and she was the perfect woman (by His grace) and mother. Is it any wonder that we look to Christ as our savior, and Mary as a model and advocate?

I believe that to be wildly mis guided.
You are placing Mary above Deity.
We worship only God not false gods.

But the vast time , energy and prayers is many times about Mary. That can be problem problematic
You still haven’t provided proof for this claim.

“In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.” “The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. (And with your spirit.)” “I confess to almighty God, and to you my brothers and sisters … therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin, all the Angels and Saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God.” “Lord, have mercy. … Christ, have mercy. …Lord have mercy.” “Glory be to God in the highest … Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father. Lord Jesus Christ, only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us. … For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father, Amen.” “The Lord be with you. (And with your spirit.)” “The word of the Lord. (Thanks be to God).” “A reading from the holy Gospel according to N. (Glory to you, O Lord.)” “The Gospel of the Lord. (Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.)” “I believe in one God, the Father almighty … I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. … For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. … I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life…”

We’re halfway through the Mass but Mary’s name has only come up twice! 🤷

The rosary is 80% prayers to Mary.

Add in songs , poems, etc.
Really?..When Christ accepted the call from His Father to become a man, He accepted the responsibility to obey the law, the moral law which is summarized in the Ten Commandments. There’s a commandment which reads, ‘Honor your father and mother.’"

Well, Dubay… Christ fulfilled that law more perfectly than any human by bestowing His glory upon His heavenly Father and by taking His own divine glory and honoring His Mother with it. All we do in the rosary…is to imitate Christ who honors His Mother with His own glory. We honor her with Christ’s glory.

And what does the Mary do for us? Let us look at the second part of the Hail Mary…Holy Mary,Mother of God…pray for us sinners…Did you get that Dubay…“pray for us sinners”
Let me ask…how many sinners do you think are there in the world? Is praying for sinners to turn away from sin and to follow God…do see anything wrong with that?

VSdriver my friend, you got me.Ill have to admit, when Jesus said not to do vain repititions, he was just kidding. its the most glorious thing to repeat prayer, so god will hear us for our much speaking.
I don’t know what you are saying here. Jesus said not to do VAIN repetitions. So sincere repetition is OK.

Perhaps you have a different definition of ‘vain’?

Hello, and thanks for this talk. The commandment says not to bow. God is not concerned with your motive.
Hi, and welcome. 👋

Actually, throughout the Bible, God is very concerned with motives, far more so than with actions. See, for example, Is 1:11-17, Ps 50:7-21, and Hos 6:6, quoted by Jesus in Mt 9:13 and again in Mt 12:7, all of which reject ritual observance, i.e. proper fulfillment of commandments, because the people’s motivations were incorrect. Then we have examples like 2 Chr 30:18-20 and, of course, the whole of Galatians 3, wherein the motivation makes people correct without the proper fulfillment of commandments. So, no, it is not the commandment, but the motivation which counts.

As for the general discussion, the text which you really ought to be reading is St John Damascene’s ‘Apologia against those who decry Holy Images’, a text which is large part of the reason why icons exist in churches today. He talks in great detail about the scriptural basis for the usage of icons, and he also sets out the very clear difference between venerating icons and worshipping them, showing how and why the former is entirely reasonable and the latter strictly forbidden.

Hello to the art history experts. Of course the faithful want to believe all is well with their particular religion. Its known history that the CC in the beginning took pagan statues and renamed them. Tamuz is now Mary with child. Its all in the history books. Its also most well known Jupiter is now Peter. To the art historian that didnt know the halo is from Roman pagan religion, is it too late to get your money back?
Apparently you didn’t read my post clearly. I said there is no representation of Jupiter wearing a halo and carrying keys. So if you can please show me a picture of the Roman God Jupiter wearing a halo and carrying keys I’ll concede my argument. But as anyone who has studied art history knows Jupiter is depicted wearing a wreath of leaves on his head and carrying thunderbolts or has an eagle by his side. And why would you think a 13th century statue of Peter is Jupiter when the pagan Roman religion was dead for over 1000 years when that statue was made?

How can Tamuz (who I have never heard of) now be Mary with Child? And just which statue did the CC rename? I’d like to see pictures of these statues.
