Statues?

So this may sound a bit silly but I was wondering, can one have too many statues like of Our Lord, the Blessed Virgin, and the saints? How much statues and images is too much? šŸ˜Š

No, as long as they lead you to pray and ask the saints for intercession.

It depends šŸ™‚ At some point in the devout life, images may become distracting. You will notice when something kindles and strengthens your devotion vs. when something hinders your prayer life. You also can ask the advice of a priest to better direct your prayer life

I believe that my images help me strengthen my devotion and in no way distract my prayer life. It sometimes seems like they help in my prayer life.
 
I donā€™t think you can have too many. Theyā€™re like pictures of family members.
 
Maybe when your prayer corner/shrine becomes too crowded with statues šŸ˜›

This was what happened to me until I had to donate some of my statues to my family members :o
 
Iā€™ve never seen a church that had too many statues, paintings, murals, icons, stained glass, etc. Iā€™ll never understand how they could ever be a distraction. They prevent me from being distracted during mass, by constantly reminding me why Iā€™m there.

I do think that at some point they could become a distraction. But, thatā€™s a different level for different people and some people may never reach that point.
 
Just a thought - but couldnā€™t someone ā€œrotateā€ the statues they have like I do with family photos? (Assuming they are small enough to be storable?)

For me, it wouldnā€™t isnā€™t an issue of distraction as much as becoming accustomed to them. Changing their position or bringing out new ones every few months and storing a couple of the ones that had been on display for awhile help me be more aware and more appreciative of them. But I donā€™t know if that would be proper for saintā€™s statues? šŸ¤·

Thatā€™s what my parish does but during the christmas season and Holy Week. We take out the statues of angels, the Nativity scene, a big cross with a crown of thorns for Holy Week. And Imyself do this when it is a saintā€™s feast day or a special time in the Church.
 
You can never have enough in my opinion. I know a gentleman in the Philipines who has a plethora of holy images. This is his private oratory to Saint Joseph. Viva SeƱor San JosƩ!

I donā€™t see anything wrong with the statues themselves.
However, it could be a problem if we had so many in our home that they were distracting us from other duties in our lives. For example, if we spend a lot of money on them and do not pay our bills on time, or if we have to spend so much time cleaning/maintaining them and it takes away necessary time we must spend with our children. We shouldnā€™t neglect service/donation to the poor for the sake of our statue collection. A good question to ask ourselves would be is this practice bringing me closer to Christ, or is it merely increasing my pride in some way?

Myself, I do have many statues and pictures. I do rotate them and arrange them to go along with liturgical seasons and feasts. It does help me connect with our Church more. I have many of these items instead of other decorative items that many have in their homes. Instead of a pretty vase on my mantle, I have a statue of our Blessed Mother. Instead of a print of a beautiful scenic painting, I have a picture of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, etc.
 
Iwant you to know that, I have Statue and Piturces of Jesus ad Mary in my bed room living room. My wife and Son,s say it,s like a shrine in here, o well.I rater have those things arund they pitures of other people.
 
I consider the images and statues an outward expression of the Faith, good for ourselves and for others who visit our homes. I do believe itā€™s possible to have too many images or statues if they do not reasonably fit in the space provided because they could be distracting in a negative way. Potential converts to the Faith may consider such displays intimidating. What is too much? Personally I think it would take a lot! I have never seen a home that I thought contained too much, only homes with something that was perhaps too distracting
