So much for the cry of “What people do in the privacy of their own homes is nobody’s business.”

And I thought making condoms readily available to our young people would be the greatest thing since sliced bread.

"Syphilis and chlamydia, two formidable sexually transmitted diseases, are rising in distinct groups in New York City and elsewhere, say government public health officials who also have found that STDs continue to increase despite prevention campaigns.

Nationally, “19 million STD infections occur every year,” said Dr. Ronald Valdiserri, acting director of HIV, STD and tuberculosis prevention programs at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. He said STDs can lead to a number of secondary conditions, from infertility to neurologic damage. Almost half of all cases occur among people between ages 15 and 24."

I remember when I was a teenager (though I’d like to forget a lot of it), common sense wasn’t one of my strong points. I just don’t think a lot of kids even consider the consequences of their actions. And if they do, they adopt the “it won’t happen to me” attitude.
