What I don’t understand is why some people want to use the man’s CV against him. Who said that saints had to be good at their job?
As a Franciscan I can attest to the fact that Francis of Assisi is a very tough act to follow in his achievement of evangelical holiness. However, as an administrator, well . . . suffice to say that it took Bonaventure and Clare to save the order from falling apart, not from a lack of holiness, but a lack of organization. And in Francis’ case Pope Gregory waved the investigation and the miracles. He canonized Francis on his own knowledge of Francis, having been Francis spiritual director when Pope Gregory was Cardinal Hugolino. He canonized Francis 17 months after his death.
I haven’t heard anyone questioning that canonization.

It does seem insignificant. But, then, I agreed with those people who were shouting Santo Subito! after he died.
