I thought that Roman Catholics were not supposed to support these things? Why do the Roman Catholic authorities allow him to teach CCD?
Maybe they do not follow the same gossip. But we do need to be cautious on what exactly is heretical and what is not, especially when we deal with terms that encompass multiple specific topics.

I watched Colbert for years when he had his own show and I always thought it was great that he was so funny and also Catholic. One day I was listening to a serious interview with him and was saddened to hear him arguing for contraception because “it reduces the number of abortions.” I realized at that moment that he is not a great thinker. Now he is on *The Late Show * where he flirts with his male guests and promotes homosexuality all the time. His sister is a lesbian so maybe he supports homosexual behaviour out of sympathy for her. The fact that he teaches Catholicism at his parish does not surprise me. I teach RCIA at my parish and the only times I have been chastised is when I quote an Early Church Father or a Pope prior to 1960. Effeminacy or heterodoxy does not raise eyebrows.

I’m so sorry that you have to deal with that. Thank you for your service and keep it up!

Yes, he is a Catholic and teaches Sunday school. There are times when he does speak up and offer some real Catholic truth on his show…but his job is a Comedian…so that is what he is focused on while he is working. 🙂 He does a pretty good job of making fun of everything eventually, but its pretty light-hearted when he does.
Whilst he is not always the most orthodox Catholic, I do remember him defending the Church’s use of priests and belief in transubstantiation . He actually broke character to do. I’d never been so happy with a Catholic celebrity on Cable television (the Colbert Report)

There was this interview Colbert did with Salt and Light Catholic Media Foundation where he apparently pretty much says that he will not / cannot lampoon the sacraments - specifically the Eucharist. Yeah, he may not be the most orthodox or consistent Catholic (something he himself admits) or the best role model for Catholics in the media, but at least he draws the line on the Eucharist - shows that he cares about it in a way.

Well, like the saying goes - “even a broken clock is right twice a day.”
