A pretty good segment overall. Except Hilton has it wrong about 2:45 into the video where he suggests sending Corona Virus patients to Navy hospital ships.

This is wrong.

You send NON-Corona Virus patients from the hospital to the Navy Ships (with some exceptions. i.e. OB patients) and use the land hospital for the Corona Virus patients.

He was right in that they shouldn’t have been sent back to their nursing homes while they were infectious. An alternative medically supervised quarantine location location could have reduced the spread I believe.

You are right. You clearly don’t send them back to the nursing homes.

That’s why I said . . .
use the land hospital for the Corona Virus patients.

And as you mentioned, Steve Hilton is correct on NOT sending infected patients back to the nursing homes.

Yes. True too. “An alternative medically supervised quarantine location” would indeed be an option.

It would need to be equipped with ventilators, lab ability, etc.

Poverty creates death, too. Less money to go around, and literally no money in some cases.

More than 3.8 million Americans filed for unemployment last week, the Labor Department reported on Thursday, as the tidal wave of job losses triggered by the coronavirus pandemic continues to grow.
The new report, which covers the week ending April 25, pushes the six-week total of job losses since states adopted strict stay-at-home measures to 30.2 million. Unemployment at this scale hasn’t been recorded since the Great Depression, when the jobless rate peaked at 25 percent.
Suicide rates jumped during the Great Depression.

As per usual, the Democratic Governors who continue to include small towns in their shutdowns lack compassion for those losing jobs and entering poverty.

Then after these Democrats have hurt these people financially,
the people are still going to have to leave the house sooner or later and face a world with Corona Virus.

Heartless.

Agreed. If there looks to be a considerably uptick in serious cases after a controlled opening up which cannot be managed, then we can look to shut down again.

They aren’t even prepared to handle unemployment requests in my state.

So the unemployment systems is broken, the Payroll Protection Program regulations change AFTER they issue the money, and the disaster relief loans (federal and state) have by and large not been paid out (my applications are still “under review” after 6 weeks of waiting).

It is easy to to tell folks to just take advantage of these programs when you are not the ones trying to take advantage.

Notice that the politicians and “journalists” are the loudest mouths in advancing and defending shutdowns. These people will receive a paycheck whether or not states are shutdown.

I notice this:
The shutdown has happened. 35 million are out of work. We embarked on a course of action and we are here.
We are not going back to ," how it was, by some notion of " going back today." THAT MANTRA IS A LIE. IT RELIES ON SOME LOSS OF MIND that devolves from frustration and anger. If you had a magic wand, it could never happen.
At the same time, you could reignite infectious outbreak and set back the cause horribly.
PEOPLE ARE NOT EXPOSING TO DANGER RIGHT NOW. That is the reason for recession. You are not restoring confidence without the phased return.
This doesn’t even contemplate the " human consequences" aspects of the debate. The reality doesn’t require their consideration.
So the price of life never gets reached if you ignore it and focus on the pure economics.

All you are doing is citing figures and being outraged by them. The analysis of WHAT NOW still must be rational. We have consequences that aren’t going to be fixed by everyone charging into the breach. The whole radical open today fully campaign can only even exist as a political weapon because it’s impossible.
A giant rant that exists because it will remain a rant, and never reality. That sounds pretty useless. And it is in terms of dollars and cents.

Viruses don’t care about economies. We’ve known how to deal with pandemics, and it means physical distancing and preventing people from working in close quarters.

What would even be the point of closing down again? You’ve already compromised the quarantine at that point, and the economy will take a while to recover even with the reopenings (assuming the immanent recession doesn’t hit us, which is a big assumption). By closing down again you’re just reinstating an ineffective measure that will undo a lot of the progress in terms of economic recovery.

The problem with that theory Maximus1 is no one is
“focused on the pure economics”.

Nobody.

But there are lots of people that are focused on the pure viral elements.

So the price of life never gets reached if you ignore it and focus on the pure viral infections.

By ignoring the economic aspects of this
instead of looking at BOTH the economic AND viral aspects.

You wonder why some people are selfish and immoral enough to do this artifical focus?

If we have an outbreak again, it will be to save lives. By that point the economy will not come back no matter how many " orders" you give it.
The economy does not come back because you open it. People changed behavior and continue to.

I’m not sure who Steve Hilton is. Is he from the hotelier family?
