I wouldn’t say so, but it seems to me that the issue of abortion is now more about political point scoring than a genuine interest in the human right(s) of the unborn.

The fact remains that new legislation always takes considerably long to implement. It would only make sense therefore to divert all that energy on a task that is incredibly difficult to achieve (if it ever will) to the much more simple and exigent task of those around the world who are dying because of malnutrition and other causes. This is in conformity with St. Therese of Lisieux’s “Little Way”, an approach that made her become a Doctor of the Church.

I don’t know about what you perceive, but from what I gather, there is so much emphasis on abortion that everyone seems to have forgotten that there are people in this world who are essentially “born to die”. It’s almost as if people only care about others until they are born :(.
**As several others have said, it isn’t an either/or question, it’s a both/and.

It is estimated that 15 million babies die from abortion each year around the globe (registered abortions only). johnstonsarchive.net/policy/abortion/wrjp3310.html

It is also estimated that 15 million children die from starvation each year. library.thinkquest.org/C002291/high/present/stats.htm

We must put equal efforts into reducing both numbers drastically!

Jesus taught us;

“And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.’” (MT 25:40)

Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, ora pro nobis peccatoribus, nunc et in hora mortis nostrae!

I agree – false dichotomy.
I also agree. Further, given the topic is concerning abortion, to throw in opinions other issues is not only inappropriate but serves to only discompose the issue.

Changing the subject is the number one goal of those who support abortion when ever the subject comes up. When that doesn’t work semantics arguments and euphemisms are the next tactic of those trying to defend the indefensible.

True. We are here to fight different battles, and we must fight every one as well as we can. It is telling that those who think abortion is okay but want to do something about poverty in Africa think they can drive out that poverty with more abortions. Where in the Bible does it tell us that killing is fine if you do it to fight poverty?

I’m also glad that I wasn’t a victim of abortion. My mother was 16 when she had me and was urged by many to have an abortion. However, she couldn’t do it and my grand parents wouldn’t allow it.

It’s good that your mother and grandparent knew to do the right thing.

Am I the only one who is a bit bothered about all this talk of abortion, and not the hundreds of thousands of children dying of poverty in Africa, Asia, etc?
You are bothered by pro-life talk? I think it was Ronald Reagan who said all the people who are pro-abortion have already been born.
