Stolen?

I’m looking forward to NBCs A.D. on Easter Sunday. I saw the previews and a thought occurred to me. Could have the guards at Jesus’ tomb have been drugged and Jesus’s body stolen? Why or why not?
 
What did the guards,see, if they were awake and not drugged? Surely they must’ve seen Jesus arise if they were on watch.

If the rock sealing the tomb was in place, perhaps they noticed nothing. Jesus would have disappeared from within the tomb.
 
It says in the Bible the guards witnessed a Divine Manifeststion at the tomb and fled.

They were paid off by the priests to tell the lie to the Jews.

Matthew 28:1-6
On the night after the sabbath, at the hour when dawn broke on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalen and the other Mary came near to contemplate the tomb. And suddenly there was a great trembling of the earth, because an angel of the Lord came to the place, descending from heaven, and rolled away the stone and sat over it; his face shone like lightning, and his garments were white as snow; so that the guards trembled for fear of him, and were like dead men. But the angel said openly to the women, “You need not be afraid; I know well that you have come to look for Jesus of Nazareth, the man who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, as he told you. Come and see the place where the Lord was buried.”

Matthew 28:11-15
They [the women hastening back to the Apostles] had not finished their journey, when some of the guards reached the city, and told the chief priests of all that befell. These gathered with the elders to take counsel, and offered a rich bribe to the soldiers; “Let this,” they said, “be your tale, ‘His disciples came by night and stole him away, while we were asleep.’ If this should come to the ears of the governor, we will satisfy him, and see that no harm comes to you.” The soldiers took the bribe, and did as they were instructed; and this is the tale which has gone abroad among the Jews, to this day.

There was a large earthquake and the guards passed out.

Now after the Sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to look at the grave. And behold, a severe earthquake had occurred, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled away the stone and sat upon it. And his appearance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow. The guards shook for fear of him and became like dead men. The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid; for I know that you are looking for Jesus who has been crucified. He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said. Come, see the place where He was lying. Go quickly and tell His disciples that He has risen from the dead; and behold, He is going ahead of you into Galilee, there you will see Him; behold, I have told you.” And they left the tomb quickly with fear and great joy and ran to report it to His disciples. (‭Matthew‬ ‭28‬:‭1-8‬ NASB)

Because Jesus appeared for 40 days to hundreds of people, and because the Apostles and first Christians all died for this belief at different times and different places. All they had to do to live was recant that Jesus rose from the dead. None of them did.

So the guards passed out AFTER seeing Jesus’ resurrection not while on guard, watching the tomb? So, there’s no chance they were drugged because they witnessed Jesus’s Resurrection?

We don’t have a record of that. The body of evidence is more than just that moment of…perhaps you would glean a lot from William Lane Craig’s book, Reasonsble Faith, he devotes a chapter to this.

Oh, I can’t buy any more books. My hubby would have a fit. Ill see if I can get it at the library, which I doubt.

I think the fact the Scripture says “The guards were shaken with fear of Him,” after His resurrection says they were awake and aware.

Of the angel at least. It is unclear how much they witnessed but they very well may have seen it all and even converted later.

Many roman soldiers were early converts.

Even IF they were drugged, which there’s nothing in Scripture to suggest that, the fact that Jesus appeared to so many; healthy and not battered shows He had been Resurrected, and not stolen or suffered a 'swoon", right?
