It might take weeks to see a doctor and then a years wages to see a psychiatrist, so maybe the priest is better.

Why would a doctor be interested in ghosts and witches anyway?

To see if the problem doesn’t originate in the mind. Not all priests are trained in psychology or problems of the mind.

I see but doctors are trained in psychiatry either, in fact I could probably teach my doctor about mental health as I work in it and he doesn’t.

Nothing wrong with starting with Holy Water though.

You’re missing the point. A mental illness could make you think something demonic is going on when in fact it has a perfectly mundane physical explanation. You shouldn’t conclude something is supernatural until you first rule out the natural.

How would you know something is demonic or medical if you don’t go to a doctor first

Neither is it correct to assume that all aberration is purely natural or consequential at a contemporaneously knowable level. Consider the Lord’s servants Job and Tobit. Neither immediately had any way of knowing the cause of their testing. Still, the physical maladies they suffered ultimately were shown to be of supernatural origin.

As to this or that post, we are in a crowd here. Some folks will shout out anything. The advice given us in 1 John 4 must be followed.

People who leap at the opportunity to blame demons for their problems honestly strike me as a bit pretentious. Occam’s razor says you’re not that special, Stacy.

you’re not that special,
Yeah, considering the level of holiness and spiritual maturity of the saints who experienced I’m kind of embarrassed for any random catholic who thinks it’s happening to them.

Not that I am disagreeing with you, you can often tell if the OP is a “devil around every corner” type. The “cure” is often the same. Frequent the sacraments, pray the rosary, pray deliverance prayers.

Demons are truly around according to the Saints, but instead of looking at them as “creeping terrors” they should be looked as a virus, or mites that you could catch by hanging around the wrong places. A little prayer, rosary, confession, and communion, and you’ll be right as rain.

They need permission to act against us, unfortunately when we use porn or witch boards, we are in fact giving them permission to bother us sometimes. Even then, they have to have permission. Does this mean that every time we partake in mortal sin, we suddenly get shadowed by demons? No, not at all, but as in medicine, it isn’t always a bad idea to be a bit proactive.

I am with you though, rather than indulge the ideas that somebody is beset with demons, we are better off simply suggesting the remedies, which are appropriate in ANY case being it our own sinful nature, or a few mites we picked up on the dark side of the woods.
