The University of Notre Dame (“Our Lady”) is named for our heavenly Mother and the Mother of Jesus. No, the university should not let her or her Son Jesus down.
The university should not abandon its Catholic roots – its students, faculty and staff should call upon the leadership of the university to help it return to its roots and proclaim by its every action that God is more important than anything educational, academic or political. Scripture tells us “You shall have no other gods before me” – this is part of the First Commandment. Father Jenkins, UND President, has violated this Commandment by making popularity and worldly values more important than the values Catholics are to proclaim.
The board of trustees needs to be petitioned to replace the university President NOW. All Catholics attending the university need to demand that the school be led by someone who proclaims Catholicism above anything and everything, every day. They should demand that new leadership reflect Catholic values in all actions pertaining to the university, and help the university as a whole to reflect Christ’s truth and justice to the rest of the world. Academia is important, but it is not more important than this. Within the young communities they helped to establish, Christ and the Apostles would not have given honor or a platform to someone who actively rejects Truth as taught by Christ. President Obama not only rejects foundational teachings of the Church, but he actively stomps on them with the policies he has implemented these past two months. Father Jenkins needs to be replaced.
from the Bylaws of the University of Notre Dame:
- The President shall be the executive head of the University and shall be responsible for the general direction of its affairs…
- …Any officer of the University may be removed from office by a vote of at least two-thirds
(2/3) of the Trustees then in office when in their opinion the welfare of the University requires such action…
