The student, José Pérez Bautista, is 24 years old and studying organic chemistry at Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científica. He was trying to recruit helpers for the attack by posting in “ultra-conservative” online forums but found no support. Police raided his apartment, and discovered that he did have chemical formulas for making toxic substances and the school confirmed that those formulas were unrelated to his studies. He did not have the ingredients on hand, however, nor did he have the actual toxins.

He was signed up to be a volunteer at WYD, but police will detain him for the duration of the event.

After first reading it, I thought it said that he was going to attack the pope with toxic gas! :eek: But then I realized he wanted to attack the anti-papal protesters! :eek:

Either way, it’s good that this guy has been caught. I’m in Madrid now for WYD and this kinda freaks me out a bit. :bigyikes:
 
Sigh, more fodder for the “religious people are all insane” atheist crowd. I do wish people would stop being so irrational about things. :mad:

When I first read this, I thought it was someone who was planning on ‘attacking the Pope’. Instead, it’s somebody who wants to ‘defend him’.

I think we’ve all lost our collective minds…sheesh…

Yeah, the protestors claim 50m euros are spent in the Holy Father’s visit. But, what is 50m euros compared to the billions of euros abortion stills. What about the blessings that money can give but Christ himself through His Vicar on Earth.

Satan is mad because the most Catholic nation that used to be has turned to be a worshiper of the world and he can’t take his grip from the Church. God help us the direction so Catholic nations are taking to pave the way to the “Dictatorship of Relativism,” as the Holy Father so accurately says, is scary!

The hour has come, the persecution of the Bride of Christ is here, clear for all to see, but She must suffer from all her angles, first. The Holy Father walks on RED slips, symbol of martyrdom and we should follow him to a white martyrdom.

Police released the student from custody on Thursday, with authorities saying the threat was less than initially thought:
A Mexican chemistry student accused by police of plotting a gas attack on anti-papal protesters said he only meant it as a “joke” and has been released from jail, a court said Thursday.

Because of his lack of roots in Spain, the court said Perez Bautista should report to his local Madrid police station twice a day, be contactable at any time, hand over his passport and remain in Spain.

Not only that, but I imaginge that World Yoth Day brings a lot of business to Madrid and boosts the economy if anything. That they would protest on the supposed basis that it costs money is ludicrous. They’re just looking for reasons to get upset.

You can go on Wikipedia and find that their protest is nothing but anti-christian hot gas! That 50mil is coming out of donations from pilgrims and corporate sponsorship.

Of course that is not satisfying either apparently. I’ve seen images of Pope Benedict holding up a Coke bottle as if it was the Eucharist solely because Coke is a big sponsor of WYD.

I really hate anti-theists
