The latest outrage:
The Thomas More Law Center filed a federal lawsuit yesterday afternoon against the Howell Public School District located in Howell, Michigan, and teacher, Johnson (“Jay”) McDowell, for punishment and humiliation heaped on a [Catholic] student after he expressed his religious belief opposing homosexuality when asked by the teacher during class.

… after ordering [the Catholic student] to leave the classroom, McDowell asked the remainder of the class whether anyone else did not accept homosexuality. A student raised his hand, and McDowell ordered him out of the classroom as well.

This brings back memories. Back in the 70s when I was in hs biology, a teacher asked if there was anyone who did not believe in abortion in any case at all, including cases of rape.

I raised my hand and he starting questioning me trying to make me change my mind. I was ridiculed to the point where another student stuck up for me and told the teacher to stop. I don’t remember telling any adults. 🤷

I had completely forgotten about it. Guess this stuff is still going on and probably will forever.

I think that teachers who do that abuse their position, their authority and the student(s) they do that to.

Liberals preach tolerance and diversity till the cows come home. But as soon as an opposing view is expressed they want people shut up and scorned.
 
If I was in that classroom, I would have held my hand up as well. The great martyrs of the Church went through far worse things for standing up for their beliefs.

I want to thank everyone for responding. Good comments. Special thanks to AnneTeresa for standing by her faith.

Two observations are of note here but not mentioned in the complaint:


  1. *]Teachers should teach their assigned subjects, not something extraneous;

    *]Teachers should not engage in political advocacy in the classroom; the mission of education is the pursuit of truth, not political advocacy. In this case, the whole school district is at fault for advocating the approval of homosexuality as an acceptable lifestyle. The merits, or lack thereof, of the object of advocacy are irrelevant. Educators, of course, are free to engage in advocacy outside the campus, but should save the world on their own time, and not use their official capacity at an educational institution to lend credibility to their cause.

    It’s been some time since I read the book Animal Farm, but I vaguely recall a similar incident in the story. This case is similar to totalitarian regimes in which political dissenters are sent away.

I hate to be pessimistic… but I think its only a matter of time before instances of persecution to Catholics reach a higher level in this country. It might not be a group of people… but I’m just saying, I’ll probably be alive around 50 or 60 more years (God willing)… and the way things are in this country, I will not be surprised when radicalized atheists start murdering Catholics in this country.

I’ll be deeply saddened, outraged, etc. But, if something like that happened soon, I couldn’t honestly say that it surprised me.

I’m just saying, when you have so many people that hate the Catholic Church, you’re going to have a smaller group that really hates the Catholic Church, and some of them will really REALLY hate the Catholic Church. And, of those people all you need is one crazy lunatic… and there you go. Violence.

I mean, we’ve had plenty of Church burnings in this country already, however most of them have been motivated from racial hatred.

Lastly, are we called to pray that persecution doesn’t happen? Or that we just have the strength to endure persecution?
 
I would have raised my hand. If for nothing else, but to get out of class.

    It’s been a long time since I read Animal Farm, too. Strange, I learned the phrase “more equal” from that book, and it seems to me that’s what militant gays want, is to be “more equal.”

What a shocking, bizarre story. A teacher ordering a student to leave the room for disagreeing with him? The teacher was bullying a minor.

I wholeheartedly concur with Grace, it is bullying, and that was the first thought that went through my mind when I read the opening post. Schools are supposed to be working against bullying by students against each other, and here’s a teacher doing it. Yes, the homosexual agenda is about bigotry. The teacher is obviously a bigot.

I also notice a conspicuous absence of the l------- on this forum not responding here, at least, so far.

We are living in a rather unique age because we are calling evil good and good evil and scholars and the intelligentia are supporting it backed with government legislation. Now is the time to ask for the gift of discernment (lest we be fooled) and purify our souls. I pray everyday for the strength to withstand what surely is coming - an unprecedented hatred for the things of God.

The student was deemed guilty of having committed the “sin” of discrimination *. Schools, overwhelmingly dominated by liberals, are so caught up into radical egalitarianism that they deny the existence of the better and the existence worse. Since people make choices every day, some things are clearly better than their alternatives, so redefining Truth becomes necessary for reality to conform to liberal ideology.

First, the source of this denial is their belief that non-discrimination is a moral imperative – that the only way to be moral is by not discriminating between ANYTHING, even right and wrong, good and evil, better and worse, truth and lies, because an act of discrimination – i.e., discriminating between these things – might be a reflection of personal bigotries.

Non-discrimination, therefore, is a moral imperative because its opposite is the evil of having discriminated.

Second, non-discrimination of thought leads the modern liberal’s invariably siding with evil over good, wrong over right, and the behaviors that lead to failure over those that lead to success. Why? Very simply, if nothing is to be recognized as better or worse than anything else, then success and truth are unjust by definition. If nothing is better than anything else, then there is no explanation for success other than success committing the injustice of having cheated, and the greater the success the greater the injustice. Conversely, and for the same reason, failure is proof of victimization of the injustice, and the greater the failure, the greater the proof of victimization.

Truth excludes lies, right excludes wrong, good excludes evil; therefore, lies, wrong, and evil must be blessed with victim status and must be made equal to Truth, right, and good in order not to be discriminated against. Since Truth, right, and good can stand on their own, and falsehood cannot, we get programs to prop up their failed ideology, and special days, like “Spirit Day”, to “celebrate” what everyone knows are lies, wrong, and evil.

Consequently, anyone who dares to say the emperor is naked is sent off to a “re-education” camp. And that is why for liberalism to work, people must be denied their rights.*
