We’re here to learn, teach, enlighten, and be enlightened. Not throw verses out of context. In Eph 5 the discussion is about mutual submission in a marriage. It’s not accounting for the woman in Proverbs 31 (from Mrs. Hanh’s talks) who also has a job outside of her home who brings honor to her husband.
“It is clear from Scripture that the husband’s being head of his wife does
not mean he is to be “boss” or that he is to dominate his wife. Being “head” means giving his wife sensitive, intelligent leadership. But note: It’s to be leadership that grows out of loving consultation between the spouses. As head, the husband provides for and cares for his wife (and of course the children). He bears primary overall responsibility for the family.” (Fr. Ray Ryland, This Rock,
Volume 15, Number 6)
And how about recommending something like this to our nw member?
Does the Catholic Church Hate Women? **This Rock **Volume 17, Number 3
Or this:
Spiritual Headship,
This Rock, Volume 16, Number 2, in which Jimmy Akin says, “The differences between men and women translate into a corresponding differentiation of roles. For example, men are generally better suited to roles that require greater physical strength” and yet, “Men and women are equal in God’s eyes. They have equal dignity, and Christ died for both sexes equally.”
As in regards to your quote from 1 Timothy, why assume that the OP wants to offer consecration??? You are stereotyping as much as a Sola Scriptura troll who comes on these boards ans says that we Catholics worship Mary.
If she had such a question, why not refer her to an intelligent article llike this
Women Priests: No Chance instead of Instead of throwing out scripture, answer her question – if that is her question – as to why that verse was written and what the Catholic stance is.
This is the courtesy we give to our Fundamentalist brothers in Christ when they visit the boards. Why not to the OP?
Back to the OPs question: feminism as acting in a complementarian role is encouraged. Egalitarian roles? Not in the current cultural, secular sense. I hope I have offered a solid foundation on what we believe, and why. I am sorry that many here are not able to offer resources that will engage you in conversation and understanding of our Faith.
