I’m stunned. The work of God’s Grace in this whole affair is becoming undeniable. I never thought I’d see such words from His Excellency:

"To His Eminence Cardinal Castrillón Hoyos

Your Eminence

Amidst this tremendous media storm stirred up by imprudent remarks of mine on Swedish television, I beg of you to accept, only as is properly respectful, my sincere regrets for having caused to yourself and to the Holy Father so much unnecessary distress and problems.

For me, all that matters is the Truth Incarnate, and the interests of His one true Church, through which alone we can save our souls and give eternal glory, in our little way, to Almighty God. So I have only one comment, from the prophet Jonas, I, 12 -

“Take me up and throw me into the sea; then the sea will quiet down for you; for I know it is because of me that this great tempest has come upon you.”

Please also accept, and convey to the Holy Father, my sincere personal thanks for the document signed last Wednesday and made public on Saturday. Most humbly I will offer a Mass for both of you.

Sincerely yours in Christ

+Richard Williamson"

I see nothing “Stunning” in this.

He is apologizing for making remarks that have caused issues. So if no issues would have been raised would he still have apologized?

He does not recant his remarks, he does not say they were wrong or that he was mistaken, just that he is sorry he said them.

Best thing would have been never to have said them.

I am still trying to figure out why any bishop would make such statements as they really have nothing to do with the faith.

He is posting an apology on a blog? I tried to google the text and can’t find it elsewhere.

Yep. That’s his blog. If you read through the rest of his posts, you’ll realize why the tone of this letter is so remarkable.

As much as an example as those who are being side tracked with pointing this out with personal attacks.

Just ignore the user.

Well ByzCath —it seems you are in the same boat—since You have made yourself judge of the Bishops apology. Kinda like the Pot–etc.

Wow. This kind of says it all.

What else can we do but judge what is said in any apology? Everyone does it, it is what we must do for an apology to be an apology and for us to accept it. You obviously are judging it to make the comment you just did… I am not judging the bishop or what is in his mind, only what he has chosen to say, which is that he is sorry for the reaction the media had to what he said, rather than being sorry for what he said.

But there are those out there who believe that certain bishops can do no wrong.

Actually, I’m a Jewess and merely reflecting on the Christian charity of Bishop (“sorry for any inconvenience caused”) Williamson.

I see – I take back the Christian ----I guess charity is not a word in the Jewish faith.

the bishop is apologizing for causing unneeded scandal upon the church. knowing how unpopular his comments would be he should’ve known better. he isn’t apologizing for his remarks because he believes them to be true or he wouldn’t have said it. how disingenuous would it be for him to apologize now, when we all know he doesn’t believe a word of his apology? at least he has integrity.

a lot of people do not believe in the numbers or methods given for the holocaust and not simply the lunatic fringe as is portrayed in the media, but millions upon millions worldwide. however there is little doubt that the nazis targeted jews specifically as well as catholic poles, gypsies, homosexuals, and anyone else classified as unfit. therefore arguing numbers becomes semantics and does no good.

With Williamson? I see you have a sense of humor, at least.
Excuse me, Knaninchen, but I must ask you a question: can you show me in Williamson’s own words where he denied the Holocaust? All I can see is that he has questioned the numbers and the scope of the methods used. I have not seen him denying the fact that the attempted genocide of the Jewish People took place. Can you show me where he has?

3/4 of my siblings children, my beloved neice and nephews, are Jewish. They have asked me the same things, and levelled the same objections. I am still awaiting their response to the question I have asked you above.

I read some and I agree. I find the apology very humble and sincere.

Didn’t he deny that any Jews were killed in gas chambers? He said there were no gas chambers.
