Instead of eating lobsters or other expensive seafood, why not try eating carp?
Who eats expensive seafood? I can’t remember the last time I had lobster. I certainly have never cooked one.Instead of eating lobsters or other expensive seafood, why not try eating carp?
We are not required to eat any kind of seafood on Fridays.Instead of eating lobsters or other expensive seafood, why not try eating carp?
Might want to look into *Tofu *and *Quinoa *. I recommend the latter since it’s a complete protein grain and is perfect for a quick stir fry being great a substitute for rice (as it also has a nice ratio of carbs) with a few vegetables and a simple sauce.Instead of eating lobsters or other expensive seafood, why not try eating carp?
From what I know, carp is highly available in certain parts of the United States (such as Illinois) whereas Humboldt squid is highly available in California.I remember lobster. It’s been a long, long time since I’ve had lobster.
As to carp—I’ve never seen carp for sale at my local grocery stores. So, I don’t believe, carp will be on my menu.
Hence me posting it in the Traditional Catholicism subforum. We are not required to eat any kind of seafood on Fridays.
Welcome to Colorado, where carp and Humboldt squid are not available. We’re landlocked, so other than farm-raised trout–which is terrible, and the occasional flown-in fresh fish deal—which is very hard on the budget conscious; not many choices here. From what I know, carp is highly available in certain parts of the United States (such as Illinois) whereas Humboldt squid is highly available in California.
Okay you’ve lost me. On Fridays outside Lent we don’t have to abstain from anything, not even meat. However, we do have to perform some type of penance.Hence me posting it in the Traditional Catholicism subforum.![]()
Tangential to this subject perhaps, but I have a question which I hope someone can answer …Instead of eating lobsters or other expensive seafood, why not try eating carp?
My point is, I recall some stories odd stories about abstinence. Before Vatican II, there were those who did abstain from meat on Fridays but they bought more expensive seafoods such as lobsters. Odd thing is, even after Vatican II, there are still those who do buy more expensive seafoods. I am simply offering an alternative to lobsters or other expensive seafoods. In some parts of the eastern United States, carp is cheap. In California, Humboldt squid had become cheaper when the Humboldt squid invaded California.Okay you’ve lost me. I’m not trying to be difficult but I don’t understand the point are you trying to make. Can you clarify?
I think the number of people eating expensive lobsters on Fridays out of 1.2 billion Catholics is so minescule it doesn’t even register. My point is, I recall some stories odd stories about abstinence. Lobster would be fine if one wishes to mortify the sense of taste, since it has almost none!Instead of eating lobsters or other expensive seafood, why not try eating carp?

Yes, disciplines change, and I, too, am not sure why a discipline which changes has anything to to with traditional Catholicism. We are not required to eat any kind of seafood on Fridays.
