Film the Studio of Catholic Answers Live during the showtime and then put it on TV either later or earlier for those that can’t listen to it when it happens.
 
Any chance they could replace that british sounding lady who reads the prayers during the commercials…quite frankly she freaks me out a little bit.
 
Hire me… I could edit and produce better shows when I was in high school… :cool:

Ooo, I really like number three. Along with that perhaps a magazine (Side note- I mistakenly subscribed to St. Anthony Messenger as a way to donate to retired priests… and I’m so disappointed in St. Anthony Messenger for undermining the true presence, and most recently, having a very ugly and negative review about Mother Angelica in the March 2006 Issue! An EWTN magazine, perhaps written by volunteers for EWTN -orthodox and loyal, of course- $20.00 a year would be wonderful.)

Anyway, great suggestions. EWTN does great even now, but those suggestions are really good ones. The only other suggestion I could think of would be to stop all programming featuring Scott Hahn, since (according to the New Oxford Review) he regards the Holy Spirit as female…

P.S.- Some have mentioned they don’t prefer the British Lady. I really like her, I think her voice is beautiful, and I love listening to the short prayers, etc with her voice. Very serene:o.
 
The prgrams broadcast from the Vatican (e.g., the Papal Masses, etc.) are not produced by EWTN. they always have somebody in speaking in English over the Latin, and it drive me nuts. I would love to hear the Gloria, the Apostles’ Creed, the *Pater Noster *all in Latin. I know what the words are in English and I don’t need someone to repeat them to me. It is as if the whole world is supposed to be speaking in English. Well, it doesn’t.

The lady with the English accent should be replaced. Hearing prayers said in an English accent does not make them more holy for me.

I’m sure the production quality would be improved if they received a large capital infusion to be able to produce programs with the same broadcast quality as the Protestant networks. Bob & Penny Lord’s programs seem to have been made with an old Super 8 and a cassette recorder.

Those bug me too. I will not watch papal Masses for that reason. The news crew treat them like they’re just another story. Someone so much as genuflects and the commentator is telling everybody what he just did.

Agreed as for the rosary and the Latin change the settings on your television to closed caption and all the words are there for you.

Wow - I love this idea too! It’s being done here in the Bay Area. I haven’t seen it but a local am talk-radio duo, Armstrong and Getty, broadcast their am radio show on cable. It sounds like it’s doing pretty well. I know Imus did it on MSNBC - is it still on? :confused:

Anyway - I do love and appreciate EWTN. Just my personal opinion, but I don’t think EWTN is any different in programming than say TBN? I guess TBN does have better produced shows when not showing “church” but I’m not sure TBN finances that? I dunno - not an expert by any means.

I did see the new show by a deacon from Portland…I think the show’s title was “Behold the Man”. I thought it was really good, and I believe the deacon is a convert. Just my opnion but converts trained in a more “Protestant” way of preaching really interest me! Maybe EWTN could produce more from these converts??

Hate to put a damper on all this enthusiasm but I just read Christopher Ferrara’s new book, “EWTN, a network gone wrong” and he has a number of suggestions for improving the programs. He especially addresses items and issues since 2000 when Mother Angelica resigned from the board.

The book does present facts that I’ve experienced listening to a number of shows over the Internet so it does leave me a bit disappointed, particularly after just completing Raymond Arroyo’s wonderful book on Mother Angelica.

To all - it should be pointed out that Christopher Ferrara is a hard core Traditionalist who believes that
anything which deviates from his ideas of what Catholic orthodoxy should be are wrong. Ferrara, to his credit, had a long-running battle with Altoona-Johnstown ¶ Bishop Adamec, who would never be confused with an Archbishop Chaput.

Ferrara now writes for The Latin Mass magazine, of which some articles are good and others seek to blame every single problem facing the Church on Vatican II and the Novus Ordo. They also have little or no charity for anyone who disagrees with them.

EWTN will never please the likes of Ferrara. I don’t care. Ferrara is not a priest. I would rather listen to Fr. Groeschel and Fr. Corapi. Neither of them is a career student. They work with people. They teach. Fr. Groeschel has a lot more charity than the likes of Ferrara and Fr. Corapi would kick his ### in any debate.

The reason for my post is that I do care.

This thread request suggestions. The book makes a few that someone from EWTN may want to review.

I don’t think the book mentions Fr. Corapi but it does mention Fr. Groeschel.

We all should be interested, and do what we can, to ensure that those speaking on behalf of the Church maintain its orthodox teachings and present its history in a true light.

Nobody said that you didn’t care, Cotton.

I wanted to make the point that Ferrara is a Traditionalist that comes off as being very extreme.
I have read enough of his writings to know that. His writing is something I used to enjoy but no more.
 
How about a Liturgy makeover show? Kinda like a home-improvement show. You know, take a parish that has bad music, art and architecture, and then show how to build a Church that uplifts the soul and celebrates beauty! (Obviously the parishoners would have to be willing to contribute). And it would be serious, and also hopeful. It would help with (orthodox) renewal, and most parishes in the US need that.
 
There is a lady with an incredibly classy voice and impeccable diction who reads prayers and does other commentary, sorry, I don’t know her name, but I think she might be one of the sisters in the convent there. She’s a treasure, easy to understand even for people with some hearing disabilities, and should have a larger role on the air. Some of the chanting and other background sounds behind her are a bit distracting though, and might be reduced or removed.
