I have had to do this (with family, which makes it even more awkward). It sucks, but you’ll live. Unlike the situations where your wife is involved, I wouldn’t try to accommodate or seek any kind of dispensation here.
Right.

Yes, I understand that a dispensation would not be appropriate here. I just have to suck it up.

Find a church with a Starbucks on the same block. Help her get settled into a comfy chair there with some coffee, a snack, and a book or computer and tell her you’ll walk right over from church to have breakfast with her in an hour.

But it may be appropriate if, as you say, it is down the mountain, two bus rides, etc.

Just ask your pastor. I’m not sure why you are apprehensive about doing so? If you don’t know him, then invite him to lunch or dinner, send him a birthday card, introduce yourself after church, whatever, to get to know him on a personal level.

When I go to confession on Saturday I plan to bring all this up and see what advice I receive.

OP,

It sounds like your wife’s anxiety is real. Even though her behavior seems irrational to many, she is still suffering. IMO, you need to be with her. It is the compassionate and loving thing to do (in sickness and in health…). I personally don’t believe dispensation is required (I know, everyone else does:shrug:). But, I do think you should discuss this with your priest.

God Bless You and Your Wife.

Thank you. I believe you are correct in what you say. Thank goodness I finally know what the problem is, and I believe my priest will agree.

Today I went to confession and told my pastor the story. He said there was no sin. I needed to be with my wife. And if the same thing occurs in the future there would also be no sin.

AMEN!!! So glad you were able to discuss this and resolve it.

God Bless you.
