Sundays and charity work or good deeds

Is it ok to do charity work on Sundays? I would think yes, but I am not sure…

I am not even talking about proper “work”, but about making plans to do something that might be called “work” in the widest sense. Somebody coming over to help me with something that might be called a good deed. She said she might be able to come next Sunday, and since it is her who makes the trip I would like to let her choose the day…

Of course you may do charity work on the Sabbath. Christ asked the Pharisees" “Is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath, or evil?” He then looked angrily at them for their hardness of heart. He also said “The poor you will always have with you, and you may do good to them whenever you wish”

Earning spending money is to be avoided, but charity work will be blessed.

One of the core values of scouting is Duty to God.

Today we were part of a Pitch in for the Parks project in our city.

Some times our service projects are on a Sunday - sometimes not.

It does make sense.

This is just theoretical: If somebody did good deeds every day, maybe somebody who lives on government assistance or something, and it becomes kind of like a job… then it would be WISE to take the Sabbath off so the work doesn’t interfere with proper rest… right?

In my case what “bugged” me a little bit was the planning aspect, and whether or not I should tell the other girl that another day would be better since Sunday should be a day of rest… On the other hand, it is actually something I kind of look forward to!

Doing the Lord’s work is always spiritually refreshing, even if physically exhausting. Christ allowed the Apostles to do all sorts of things on the Sabbath, except earn. The only earning that you may do on the Sabbath is earning treasure in Heaven.
