It’s like wearing eyeglasses. They’re used to help your eyes, whether that be by protecting them from the sun or for enhancing your vision. It would be different if someone were wearing like shredded short shorts or something like that.

My eyes have a condition where I need to wear sunglasses outside (my pupils are naturally oversized). If I forget to wear sunglasses outside- it damages my vision and causes migraine headaches.

I kind of get where you are coming from, but if it’s bright enough- sunlight can be very painful for even people w normal eyes. I dunno… I just have a hard time thinking God would find basic self care as disrespectful. If it was indoors, I would 100% agree with you. Then it would just be rude.

Do you have any idea how harmful going out into the sun without protection can be? 😎

Well, actually, I think my fox was in color, not sure what happened to yours. 🤔

OK, kids recess is over. Go post on a real thread now.

I’m just going to point out that even indoors it may not be rude; there may be a medical condition involved.

There was a young woman I shared a class in college with. She always sat near the front and always seemed to be sleeping. Her head was down, her eyes squinted, and she never participated.

One day, the teacher paused mid-lecture and asked her “You always look like you’re about to fall asleep. Do you have a problem?”

The student explained that she was awake and listening, but she had a medical condition that rendered her extremely sensitive to light.

So the teacher asked if there was anything that could be done to improve her learning experience, and she said she’d like to wear sunglasses but was afraid that it would be considered rude. He told her to feel free to do so.

She wore the sunglasses everyday after that. Without the pain from the light, she was actively participating in discussion and no longer appeared to be asleep. She went from barely there to a top student.

I’m not saying that this is usually the case - I imagine what she had is rare. It’s just that you never know what’s really going on with people.

Fr. Spitzer wears “cool looking” shades. He is legally blind and squints so much while on camera ,or maybe his eyes actually are closed. Someone here thought he was trying to be cool.

Bono from U2 wears tinted glasses indoors due to an eye condition.

The only impropriety is what others are unfairly ascribing to you. There is nothing wrong in wearing them out of necessity.

I’ve been on this pilgrimage, in the middle of August. The sun is blaring. I’d have trouble reading the liturgical texts without sunglasses.

I’m glad Jesus and his disciples didn’t have sunglasses.
Imagine - them - walking into dusty town like that.
I’m sorry. Really. But this is the first thing that came to mind upon reading this.

However, that being said, on the other hand, I’d take my sunglasses off if I were wearing them. Just me being me, though.
