Horrific quote from the article:
The Obama czar asserts that funding only childbirth but not abortion “has the precise consequence of turning women into involuntary incubators.”
Sunstein argues that refusing to fund abortion “would require poor women to be breeders,” while co-opting women’s bodies “in the service of third parties” – referring to fetuses.
Sunstein wrote he has no problem with forcing taxpayers to fund abortions even if they morally object to their money being used for such a purpose.
He wrote: “There would be no tension with the establishment clause if people with religious or other objections were forced to pay for that procedure (abortion). Indeed, taxpayers are often forced to pay for things – national defense, welfare, certain forms of art, and others – to which they have powerful moral and even religious objections.”

Remind me again why so many Catholics voted for this man?

oh my gosh…it’s not like pregnancy is a random event that will happen randomly for no reason.

You kind of have to try with pregnancy. Apparently they need more sex ed…

Just a note…

The WND headline (and title for this thread) is in error. Sunstein discussed organ removal from hopeless patients, not helpless patients. And the quote cited doesn’t make it clear whether or not he actually advocated for this position. Later on the article seems to indicate he did not accept that position.

No faithful Catholic voted for this man. Only CINO’s (Catholic In Name Only). And there are plenty of them (a majority in this country?).
Just a sec, my GF voted for Pres. Obama because, like so many others, she was convinced that he really the solution to the economy and such by the media and by Obama’s campaign targeting Catholics - you know, that whole “you can be pro-Life and pro-Obama” message they sold to so many people.

Catholics such as my GF bought into the idea that the economy, then in imminent collapse (sorta, kinda, but not really) was the most pressing issue without thinking of the more long-term side effects of President Obama’s platform. That, and I think her family are all staunch Democrats…

Anyways, after she learned what President Obama has been up to, and the more “left” section of the Democratic Party, she regrets it, but has told me she will never tell me who she votes for again!

This is why we must repeal the income tax. If someone wants to donate to an abortion clinic, so be it. But we must not be forced to pay for this.

many Catholics voted for Obama because they were mis led over his opinions on things.
many of the opponents of his were downright scary, and DROVE people to vote for him.

especially when a lot of what you heard about him were obvious racist or other issues, not facts. it made it hard to hear the facts. if you keep hearing stuff that sounds like racist/sexist stupid garbage… well how do you believe them when the same (or apparently the same) people tell you about his stands on abortion and health care?
if the source isnt credible…
especially since the OTHER sources were not credible… how do you know?

even now you get all sorts of garbage. the real facts are bad enough, but when people throw racist/idiotic/untrue accusations into the mix, it makes it hard to believe the real stuff.

oh…
and i did talk to a few Catholics who voted for him because they felt he couldnt do much about abortion during this term. but could help teh economy (they were, obviously, wrong)

when a devout pro life catholic attacks you for considering voting for him, on … say. economic basis… not listens, no “soft words to drive away wrath” but yelling and “you are a BAD person, how can you even think that?!” it also drives people into the hands of the enemy

and for the record? i considered voting for him… at least in part because i coudlnt hear the facts through the hostility and anger of many of my fellow Catholics, who wouldnt talk calmly and reasonably with me.
i knew that while i would vote for Mc Cain… not happily, but i would… i could not vote for Palin.
so i considered Obama (and yes, my family are lifelong democrats)
my parents (non Catholic) voted for him i know…

i voted, finally for a third party guy i knew wouldnt win… because i felt my conscience would not permit me to vote for Obama over his Pro Abortion stance…
but i almost voted for him,
and part of that could have been avoided if people spoke gently and educated people…

“soft words drive away wrath” doesnt mean being soft on the topic. but actually listening to the other person, hearing their concerns, and speaking to them gently and honestly about the issues.

If you research Sunstein’s previous articles and interviews, there is no getting around his extreme, radical position on abortion and his repeating of the false comparison of defense spending and compulsory financial support of abortion.

Unfortunately, many naive people are allowed to vote, not really understanding the candidates, the issues, or where the candidates stand on the issues. Sounds like your GF falls into this category. The national media clearly has an agenda and is anything but objective in their reporting. And many people naively allow themselves to swallow their propaganda and, in effect, tell them how to vote.

That said, many “Catholics” (CINO’s) knowingly voted for Obama with the clear knowledge that he was the most ultra-liberal, pro-abortion candidate we’ve ever had running for President. They equated the economic problems on an equal footing with abortion, which, when you really think about it, means they were willing to allow children to be horrendously murdered in their mothers’ wombs for money. That’s not what a real Catholic would do.

And who gets to define ‘hopeless?’

To those who plead ‘ignorance:’ Anyone who actually listened to the words of this president instead of media hype knew exactly who he was and where he stood on everything.

and if you dont know which sources were truthful, how do you know what he said? i heard five or six different sources quoting totally different things. i heard video clips that were cut and edited all over the place… there were words he actually said… and words that were made up.

one of my Catholic sources was passing around the “he is secretly Muslim and going to surrender us all to Islam” stuff…

thats part of the issue for many people… you DO NOT know what the person stands for unless you either hear them in person… or have a source you can trust.

many people have to hope their newspaper or their TV station or whatever are reporting accurately.
and often they are not

seriously.
I knew he was pro abortion. i had no idea HOW pro abortion.

I’m not sure that it matters, since it was a hypothetical position which was rejected.
It matters a lot, and every single one of us had better be ready to answer: who gets to decide what constitutes ‘hopeless?’

One advisor to the President on health care reform, Ezekiel Emanuel, has already identified one group that he considers hopeless: Dementia patients. He favors cutting off medical coverage for these poor souls. Maybe they’ll appoint him the new “Hopeless Cases Czar”. And these people claim to be Humanists. Where is the humanity?

You have gone right to the heart of the matter. Humanism—exalting the created above the Creator.
