  • that catholicism does indeed contain the fullness of truth, and let’s suppose the leader of your church declared that while individuals in the congregation (you) may not fully understand everything within the catholic church or it’s mysteries, it is non the less true, would you convert to catholicism, and if not, why not?

We have the doctrine of Archdruid falibility in my faith. That is anyone can be wrong, this would be one of those times.

Also it would seem we’d need a new Archdruid.

How would you know the Archdruid is wrong?
My point is we wouldn’t believe it just on the Archdruid’s say so. Almost everyone of us has looked over Christianity and the fruits it has produced and found it wanting.

For my part I want a religion that worships the Gods NOT the American conservative movement.
Monotheist are bared from holding the office of Archdruid, also I’d assume he’d be joining the RCC very soon.

I think that he would be out of our church in about two seconds

LOL! Until I saw your later post I thought you were an Anglican. (The Archbishop of Canterbury was initiated into a “Druid” society in Wales–it’s basically a literary and cultural society and does not involve the practice of pagan/heathen worship, but his conservative critics made much of it and sometimes refer to him as the “Archdruid” or something like that.)

Absolutely. In a heartbeat. With great rejoicing.

I have no doubts as to whether reunion with Rome is desirable. I have doubts as to whether I ought to do it on my own as an individual.

You wouldn’t be alone, come home Edwin!

Sorry, couldn’t resist.😃

It would not take us that long. Any longer than 3 seconds though, and then I leave and hope that I don’t get trampled at the door.
I’m curious though. What does this say about your faith in the person in whom you have placed your faith to properly teach you the Word and Will of God?

Peace

So how does that sort of thing work with you folks…Throw rocks? or Do you vote him/her out? if you decide to vote does it take a simple majority? or 3/4 %. Suppose 51% liked the idea? Does the council of the Church have an independant say? Or are their paychecks on the line too.?

Im interested in hearing why that would be.

As above, why? This is the person you ahve put your trust in to lead your congregation/church/denomination. So a better understanding of why you would react as you say would be good to obtain.

I suppose it is for the same reason that most Catholics would consider the pope to be wrong if he decided to become a Southern Baptist. We believe in the Church and it’s teachings, not in the individual people who make it up. Even if the Pope sits in St. Peter’s Chair, the moment he is no longer in comunion with Christ’s Church and the bishops we have no reason to follow him.

If the Clerk of the Yearly Meeting decided the CC had the fulness of truth, he’d be given the blessing of the Meeting to sever his ties with the Society of Friends so he could join the Catholic church if it met his spiritual needs.

Maybe i missed something perusing this thread, but one aspect of your question just may be what if the Church has the truth but the Pope, local Bishop, parish pastor does not do such a good job at articulating and spreading the Truth. That seems to me to be a very valid concern.

But, consider, if we as Catholics, in our Church, have the truth, then what is this new ecumenism all about? I was terribly disturbed recently at the Pope’s remarks on his trip in May this year to the Holy Land when he referred to Islam as that"noble religion".

Now that is funny!
You would have to race me to the door! Lol

But, consider, if we as Catholics, in our Church, have the truth,
The truth isn’t the sort of thing that one “has” in the way that one can “have” a physical possession. Rather, the truth is something to which one is united through faith and love. Christians believe that the truth is found in Jesus Christ. Catholics believe further that the truth has been entrusted as a gift to that body of Christians in communion with Rome. But as I understand the Catholic position, this does not deny that Catholics always need to live more deeply into the fullness of this gift which they have received and which they can never fully possess as one possesses a house or a chair.
then what is this new ecumenism all about?
Humility, charity, recognizing that the gift of the truth does not mean that there is nothing to learn from others, because human beings are always sinful and limited in the waay they understand the truth with which they have been entrusted. And with regard to *ecumenism *in particular (which is not generally taken to apply to Muslims, though it may in some sense apply to Jews), it means furthermore that those who are in a covenant relationship with God, however imperfect, share in the “sensus fidelium.”
I was terribly disturbed recently at the Pope’s remarks on his trip in May this year to the Holy Land when he referred to Islam as that"noble religion".
Non sequitur. You have not shown any reason to think that the gift of the truth to the Catholic Church excludes the possibility that other religions may possess qualities of nobility. Indeed, Lumen Gentium clearly teaches that it does not exclude this.

Your poor Pope really can’t get it right, can he? Some folks think he’s a nasty-minded ultra-conservative bigot, and some think he’s a wishy-washy ecumenist.

From where I stand, that means that he may just be getting it about as right as anyone can.

So avidly we flee the unity Christ commanded us to seek.

So certain we are that we have all the truth, even as we profess Christian humility.

Edwin (not Yoda, though sound like him I have begun in this post to do)

What was the context in which he referred to Islam as noble?

I’m sorry I was jabbing in good humor. I do apologize.
