Nope. All the Republicans have to do is win 51 seats in November and then repeal the mandate by reconciliation and its finished. I don’t even think they need Romney.
They need 60 votes to over turn an existing law passed by a previous congress. At least that’s what I learned yesterday.

Jim

Considering the heavy unpopularity of ObamaTax, it may not be as hard as you think, with 20 Democrats having to fight for seats. The GOP just has to win half of them and its game over. And some of those Democrats may not want to have their campaigns sullied by the fact that they are going around with the President who foisted the largest tax increase in modern history on the middle class…all in the name of fairness.
The GOP should be licking their chops at this point as they can point to this monstrosity and say it’s the biggest tax hike in history - and point to the fact that Obama said it wasn’t a tax hike.

If the GOP hammers this point home, it’s game over as you say. Especially since 47% pay no income tax. 😉

My company’s coverage is worse, but I take issue with two things you have said.

First, no one is forced to pay for insurance (until Obamacare). It is a benefit that is offered by a company, and the company pays part, in most cases.

Second, there is nothing “disgraceful” about Home Depot’s benefits. They may be worse than others offer, but that is something an employee weighs when taking a job. Maybe it is disgraceful that employers started offering such benefits, since it led to this incredible sense of entitlement. Now, a company is “disgraceful” for offering something no companies used to offer. 🤷
$180 per week for health insurance from a corporation the size of Home Depot is a disgrace.

Yeah, my friend didn’t have to take the job at Home Depot, when he was laid off from his previous job, but having 5 kids, 3 who are in college at the time, he really had no choice about refusing a job at the time.

Good point.

That said, I never did understand why group insurance was only available to companies. Some regulations that we need to fix or remove?

Source?

All you need is a committe budget resolution, and a 51 member majority to alter revenue income (tax) or outlays.
Congress uses the reconciliation process when it wants to legislate policy changes in mandatory or other direct spending or tax laws to achieve the budget resolution’s goals.
Budget resolutions may contain “reconciliation instructions” that tell the relevant committees how much they should alter revenue or entitlement outlays to make them consistent with the resolution’s targets.
The committees’ actions responding to these instructions are then bundled into a reconciliation law. Assuming they are free of points of order, reconciliation laws can be passed in the Senate by a simple majority; they do not require the sixty votes necessary to shut off a filibuster.

You can also find this info in the Senate handbook, although much wordier.

God forbid people have to pay for health insurance / health care.

I do agree that the price seems a bit high. As I’ve stated, this bill does nothing to address the underlying costs of health care/insurance.

Some companies don’t offer health benefits or have benefits that are more expensive, so your friend was fortunate they offered it. It is better than no coverage.

I love your language. Your friend had “no choice” in whether or not to take a job. Poor friend…forced labor by Home Depot. I guess I was “forced” to take my lower paying job after I was laid off. I’m nothing more than a slave… 😛

I agree. Opening up group coverage options, portability, etc. are regulations that could be changed, rather than the monstrosity of Obamacare.

Maybe Roberts sent a very clear message to the American electorate.
And this is the same Justice who wrote for the majority that corporations have the same rights as individuals. Now if anything should be repealed…

Just saying.

Just wait until all the new folks are dumped into the system. I proffer we will end up with single payer which was the goal all along. And lest one think this is a good idea, ask yourself why people from countries with this system come here for treatment or why some die waiting for treatment in these countries.

Huge difference between a state health care system, and there are things Romney said he would change about it, than a federal bureaucracy. And if you do not like health care in Massachusetts, you can move to another state. You can not move to another state and escape ObamaTax.
Abyssinia, I see we have a new name for ObamaCare: ObamaTax. That should incite the electorate! Is Romney already calling it this?

Well, the theory is that getting healthier people into the pool reduces the premiums as it spreads the risk. I don’t think much can be done about the cost of a heart bypass other than traveling abroad to get one. That $180 a week is peanuts compared to getting some surgeries in the states, especially if you’re able to get insurance at all knowing you’re a major risk.

I see there is now heavier pressure to extend the tax cuts till at least 2013, Romney or no Romney.

Interesting editorial I found today on this subject. Food for thought.

Three Cheers for Chief Justice Roberts
Howard Galganov
I’m going to make this editorial short and sweet.

AND NO - I HAVE NOT LOST MY MIND.

The Supreme Court Judgment in favor of Obamacare is as Machiavellian Brilliant as it comes. For those of you who regularly read this Blog, you already know, that based on common sense, the mood of the public, the lack of any accomplishments of Obama, the horrific economy and depression era unemployment, I’ve been predicting that Obama is toast.

I believed it then . . . and now with the Supreme Court Judgment, I BELIEVE IT EVEN MORE. What Chief Justice Roberts did was hand Obama a 100% SUICIDE PILL. In one fell swoop, the Supreme Court created the one single, largest, and most definable issue to be fought in this November election AGAINST Obama and the Democrats. It was brilliant how Chief Justice Roberts twisted and turned the Constitution around, and inside-out to come up with a victory for Obamacare with use of judicial hocus pocus to turn the seemingly innocuous MANDATE into a despised TAX.

Let me say something about John Roberts – Chief Justice Roberts has no history of ever being a Judicial Activist. To the contrary, the Chief Justice has a long and strong history as being a strict Constitutionalist.

SO WHY NOW . . . ?

Why all of a sudden did this Constitutionalist Supreme Court Judge leave the Reservation?

SIMPLE . . . At least it’s simple to me.

Judge Roberts gave Obama the one thing Obama and his LEFTIST Strategists wanted the least. The Judge gave the Republicans the magic bullet to finish the job in November. I get nauseous watching the LEFT spin their abysmal record on the economy, and on job creation as they lie through their teeth, to the point that most people don’t know who or what to believe. But – Obamacare isn’t an issuewhere the Democrats can play the Rope-a-Dope, now you see it, now you don’t, because there is no issue that is as clear, galvanizing, and disliked as Obamacare.

Had Obamacare lost at the Supreme Court, the issue would have been moot. It would have been off the table and a non-issue. In fact, it would have taken ammunition away from the Right, while ginning-up the LEFT.

But, with Chief Justice Roberts’ Majority Opinion, Obamacare is now a lightning rod issue that cannot be ignored.

Almost two out of every three Americans want Obamacare repealed for one reason or another. How happy do you think these people are now?

Think about this . . . Obama is getting clobbered on the economy. He’s getting the **** kicked-out of him on the extraordinary level of unemployment. He holds the MOST horrific debt-creator record EVER. And because of his policies, people are still losing their homes in record numbers.

Even in the world of diplomacy, his signature victory - the Arab Spring has become the Arab NIGHTMARE.

So, what can he point to as his single BIGGEST success in almost FOUR years as the President of the United States of America? . . . That he gave the OK to kill Osama?

Do you think anyone really cares anymore?

But don’t take my opinion as fact. Just look at Obama and his LEFTIST pals. Do you see the High-Fives? Are you hearing the cheers? . . . Why not?

What happened at the Supreme Court at 10am Thursday morning July 28, 2012 was nothing less than the “coup-de-grace” for Obama and the Democrats.

Thank You Chief Justice Roberts.

Best Regards . . . Howard Galganov

Interestingly enough, some were planning to expand Medicare in case the SC had overturned Obamacare. Now that’s not too likely.

That is what the Supreme Court called it, and their word is above reproach (see Roe v. Wade)

Well, it would work against him if Osama were still alive. Bush certainly made sure the world was still aware of him just before the 2004 election. Just saying.

Actually, Obama Care has everything to do with the cost of health care premiums, it’s why it was wrtten into law and is called, “The Affordable Health Care Act.”

Putting you in a pool of tens of millions of people, helps bring your premiums down compared to buying insurance on your own in today’s market.
