Some companies don’t offer health benefits or have benefits that are more expensive, so your friend was fortunate they offered it. It is better than no coverage.

I love your language. Your friend had “no choice” in whether or not to take a job. Poor friend…forced labor by Home Depot. I guess I was “forced” to take my lower paying job after I was laid off. I’m nothing more than a slave… 😛
Well I guess the choice is between starving and living in a cardboard box or working for Home Depot, yeah he had the freedom to choice.

However, he has responsibility and responsibility forces us to make choices we sometimes would rather not make.

Interesting editorial I found today on this subject. Food for thought.

Three Cheers for Chief Justice Roberts

I’m going to make this editorial short and sweet.

AND NO - I HAVE NOT LOST MY MIND.

The Supreme Court Judgment in favor of Obamacare is as Machiavellian Brilliant as it comes. For those of you who regularly read this Blog, you already know, that based on common sense, the mood of the public, the lack of any accomplishments of Obama, the horrific economy and depression era unemployment, I’ve been predicting that Obama is toast.

I believed it then . . . and now with the Supreme Court Judgment, I BELIEVE IT EVEN MORE. What Chief Justice Roberts did was hand Obama a 100% SUICIDE PILL. In one fell swoop, the Supreme Court created the one single, largest, and most definable issue to be fought in this November election AGAINST Obama and the Democrats. It was brilliant how Chief Justice Roberts twisted and turned the Constitution around, and inside-out to come up with a victory for Obamacare with use of judicial hocus pocus to turn the seemingly innocuous MANDATE into a despised TAX.

Let me say something about John Roberts – Chief Justice Roberts has no history of ever being a Judicial Activist. To the contrary, the Chief Justice has a long and strong history as being a strict Constitutionalist.

SO WHY NOW . . . ?

Why all of a sudden did this Constitutionalist Supreme Court Judge leave the Reservation?

SIMPLE . . . At least it’s simple to me.

Judge Roberts gave Obama the one thing Obama and his LEFTIST Strategists wanted the least. The Judge gave the Republicans the magic bullet to finish the job in November. I get nauseous watching the LEFT spin their abysmal record on the economy, and on job creation as they lie through their teeth, to the point that most people don’t know who or what to believe. But – Obamacare isn’t an issuewhere the Democrats can play the Rope-a-Dope, now you see it, now you don’t, because there is no issue that is as clear, galvanizing, and disliked as Obamacare.

Had Obamacare lost at the Supreme Court, the issue would have been moot. It would have been off the table and a non-issue. In fact, it would have taken ammunition away from the Right, while ginning-up the LEFT.

But, with Chief Justice Roberts’ Majority Opinion, Obamacare is now a lightning rod issue that cannot be ignored.

Almost two out of every three Americans want Obamacare repealed for one reason or another. How happy do you think these people are now?

Think about this . . . Obama is getting clobbered on the economy. He’s getting the **** kicked-out of him on the extraordinary level of unemployment. He holds the MOST horrific debt-creator record EVER. And because of his policies, people are still losing their homes in record numbers.

Even in the world of diplomacy, his signature victory - the Arab Spring has become the Arab NIGHTMARE.

So, what can he point to as his single BIGGEST success in almost FOUR years as the President of the United States of America? . . . That he gave the OK to kill Osama?

Do you think anyone really cares anymore?

But don’t take my opinion as fact. Just look at Obama and his LEFTIST pals. Do you see the High-Fives? Are you hearing the cheers? . . . Why not?

What happened at the Supreme Court at 10am Thursday morning July 28, 2012 was nothing less than the “coup-de-grace” for Obama and the Democrats.

Thank You Chief Justice Roberts.

Best Regards . . . Howard Galganov
How reassuring that the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court is playing politics to ensure the election of the candidate whom he supports, rather than following the law to the best of his ability.

Abyssinia, I see we have a new name for ObamaCare: ObamaTax. That should incite the electorate! Is Romney already calling it this?
I do not think Romney has called it ObamaTax, but I have seen a lot of people call it that. That is what it is.

Anyway, this thread has exhausted itself and we’re only repeating our own arguments for or against the issue.

My position was supported by the SCOTUS ruling yesterday.

So I’ll ride off into the subject with a smile and a prayer. 😃

I’m unsubscribing to the thread.

The other good thing about this ruling is that the court (not just Roberts) knocked down the Commerce Clause and Necessary and Proper clauses as justification for Obamacare. The Court also invoked the 10th Amendment.

Unfortunately, the plaintiffs didn’t argue the case based upon those rationales.

Honestly, there wouldn’t be any reason why the bill could re-tried based upon its federal government over-reach. Based upon the opinion of the court in this matter, it might actually succeed.

I tend to agree with you. One could make the same argument that Obama is really pro-life because he has energized the pro-life forces by expanding the availability of abortions. Where was the talk of Sanctity of Life amendments during Bush’s administration? No cause for concern then; therefore the status quo remained.

Hey, the right has been having to tolerate it from leftists Supreme Court justices for years. Deal with it.

I guess the fact that your guy passed the largest tax increase on the already burdened middle class makes you smile is telling.

I’ve stopped writing them since I never recieved responses to the numerous letter I wrote over and over. They know they are not there for me and I know that now too.

I suggest you stop going to the altar or government and participating in the sacrament of voting. You legitimize crooks by doing so.
Well I don’t know about you in NY, but here in Ohio both my Congressman and Senators are very receptive to me.

Sorry you have such sore views but I am going to go to the altar of government in participate in the sacrament of voting, because there are billions in this world who do not have such a luxury. Also millions were killed trying to protect that right for you to vote, whether you believe in voting or not…you shouldn’t discourage others from doing so. It’s a disgrace to the millions who died for that freedom…from the Colonists at Lexington and Concord, to the Texans at the Alamo, to men on the beaches of Normandie, to the men in the rice patties of Vietnam and the current soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan…it is also a disgrace to all those millions dying to earn their right to vote…perhaps you should look at what’s going on in Syria and then you’ll see how important democracy is to some people.

Well, the theory is that getting healthier people into the pool reduces the premiums as it spreads the risk. I don’t think much can be done about the cost of a heart bypass other than traveling abroad to get one. That $180 a week is peanuts compared to getting some surgeries in the states, especially if you’re able to get insurance at all knowing you’re a major risk.
And that’s the problem. $180/week is peanuts compared to what your bills could be. People complain it is too much, but it is what it is. Quality care costs big bucks and someone has to pay for it.

I agree that with the theory that the larger the pool, that spreads the risk. However, the problem is that the fear is we’re going to give people gold plated care and expect someone else to shoulder the cost.

But his phrasing has, and continues to scare me.

“Repeal and replace”. “Replace”…with what? ACA lite? There are provisions regarding pre-existing conditions that can can be in place with out a giant over-reaching law. Perhaps tort reform, with an opening of the insurance market across state lines.

What else is there?! It seems sometimes that people in power are two slightly different sides of the very same coin.

“This law is unjust and over-reaching. I will propose my own unjust and over-reaching version, which won’t be so bad, because I’m making the rules and holding the reins of power.”
Romney has said what he would replace ObamaTax with in his speech responding to the Supreme Court ruling
For all those reasons its important for us to repeal and replace Obamacare. What are some of the things we will keep in place? And must be in place for a reform, a real reform of the healthcare system. One we have to make sure people who want to keep their current insurance will be able** to do so. Having 20 million people, up to that number of people, lose the insurance they want is simply unacceptable.
Number two, we’ve got to make sure that those people who have preexisting conditions know that they will be able to be insured. And they will not lose their insurance. We also have to assure that we do our very best to help each state in their efforts to assure that every American has access to affordable health care. And something that Obamacare does not do that must be done in real reform is helping lower the cost of health care and health insurance. It’s becoming prohibitively expensive.**
And so this is now a time for the American people to make a choice. You can choose whether you want to have a larger and larger government more and more intrusive in your life. Separating you and your doctor. Whether you’re comfortable with more deficits. Higher debt that will be passed onto the coming generations. Whether you’re willing to have the government put in place a plan that potentially causes you to lose the insurance that you like.
Or whether instead you want to return to a time when the American people will have their own choice in health care. Where consumers will be able to make their choices as to what kind of health insurance they want. This is a time of choice for the American people. Our mission is clear. If we want to get rid of Obamacare, we’re going to have to replace President Obama.

Romney’s Reforms Will ‘Entail No New Taxes, No Massive Diversions Of Funds Away From Medicare, No Tax Discrimination, And No New Bureaucracies.’ 'The reforms I propose for the country could not be more different from Barack Obama’s. They entail no new taxes, no massive diversions of funds away from Medicare, no tax discrimination, and no new bureaucracies.’

Op-ed, Mitt Romney, Op-Ed, ‘Why I’d Repeal Obamacare,’

usatoday.com/news/opinion/forum/story/2012-03-22/mitt-romney-health-reform-repeal-obamacare/53711598/1

Reform that will give ‘Individuals The Same Tax Break That Companies Get’ to get health insurance and will encourage cop, petition among health care providers, ‘[Romney’s] plan also includes giving individuals the same tax break that companies get when they buy insurance for their employees, allowing individuals to buy insurance across state lines, and encouraging consumers to shop around for the least expensive medical services, creating competition among healthcare providers.’

Romney will return ‘Healthcare Responsibilities To The States,’ Including Medicaid funding. 'Romney said he plans to give a waiver to all 50 states discontinuing the president’s plan – known formally as the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act – and returning healthcare responsibilities to the states. He wants to take Medicaid money administered by the federal government and give it to states as block grants.

You thought that the ACA “penalty” wasn’t covered by the Commerce Clause, but was a tax, not covered in Art. I, §8, cl. 1, OR, the Anti-Injunction Act, but due to the fact that the IRS collects it?

I would unsuscribe also, for making such an untenable claim.

Wrong Roberts is creating a new meaning for penalty. Penalty it is a tax.
You are correct. It is classic double speak.

The reason people are up in arms is that the USSC can redefine “penalty” and “tax”

Hey, the right has been having to tolerate it from leftists Supreme Court justices for years. Deal with it.
I blame the executive and legislative branches for installing justices on the Court who are ideologues, either right-wing or left-wing. The justices on the Supreme Court should all be centrists and not attached to a particular political party.

That is what the Supreme Court called it, and their word is above reproach (see Roe v. Wade)
To be fair to Roberts, Obama’s attorneys were calling it a tax when presenting their arguments to the S.C. Roberts merely confirmed that the bill wasn’t constitutional under the commerce clauses but was constitutional under Congress’s taxing authority.

This makes very little sense. “Obamacare”, and “Romneycare” are two peas in the same pod. So, as “Romneycare” is Romney’s claim to fame. (That and driving across country, with his dog on the roof of his car ) How is he different from Obama on this matter? Assuming he is elected. Do you think he will suddenly see things your way?

Besides, you can always leave the country. I hear Somalia has no healthcare to worry about.

ATB
Romney who wants to repeal ObamaCare. Believe it or not, but that is what will happen if he is elected.

I have explained the differences between RomneyCare and ObamaTax

How did we every prosper as a country for the previous 236 years without the right to “free” contraception?
Because then there were real men and real women who had a real understanding of truth, justice and humility. Not this watered down relativistic rationality that has become American education and catechesis.
