Actually, Obama Care has everything to do with the cost of health care premiums, it’s why it was wrtten into law and is called, “The Affordable Health Care Act.”

Putting you in a pool of tens of millions of people, helps bring your premiums down compared to buying insurance on your own in today’s market.

Jim
I agree, however, the issue is what if I don’t want to pay for the coverage that the HHS Mandates or want to pay out of pocket for services instead?

You’re essentially forcing everyone to buy government cheese, without regard to the quality or type of said cheese, or you’re lactose intolerant or whether cheese is needed in the first place. And then taxing people if they decide not to buy said cheese because you decree cheese is good for you.

To be fair to Roberts, Obama’s attorneys were calling it a tax when presenting their arguments to the S.C. Roberts merely confirmed that the bill wasn’t constitutional under the commerce clauses but was constitutional under Congress’s taxing authority.
Doesn’t matter what the oral arguments are the law doesn’t have the word tax in it. It has the words penalty and mandate. To be fair to Roberts “Tax” is a Roberts invention.

John Roberts betrayed this country.

Believe it or not, but that is what will happen if he is elected.
Only if the Republicans maintain their majority in the House and gain enough seats in the Senate. Otherwise, he’ll be in office struggling to make Obamacare work somehow as he did in Massachusetts.

I blame the executive and legislative branches for installing justices on the Court who are ideologues, either right-wing or left-wing. The justices on the Supreme Court should all be centrists and not attached to a particular political party.
It’s really not the same left-Right paradigm on the Supreme Court. Justices Scalia, Thomas (I’m still working on Alito) believe in Objectivism…meaning when they look at the Constitution they take it for as is, and if need be go back to the Founding Fathers to understand what their intentions were. Justices like Ginsberg, Kagan and Sotamayor view the Constitituion as a living document and can be changed on a whim to suit a certain policy for the “good” of the nation.

Ah Austen…are you trying to say again that the Conservatives are right and the liberals are wrong?

Yes, yes I am 😃

You are correct. It is classic double speak.

The reason people are up in arms is that the USSC can redefine “penalty” and “tax”
It was the Obama admin that claimed it was a tax. The Supreme Court agreed with them. (Not sure I agree with that, but I’m not in charge)

Well, I’m not a legal scholar, and I hate this outcome, but it does seem to me that when the government takes your money away from you, calling it a “tax” or a “penalty” is just a matter of the word one chooses to use. Either way, it’s the same thing.

Fair point. They specifically left the word “tax” out of the bill so to get Republicans to sign on to it, which they didn’t do.

Agreed.

Because then there were real men and real women who had a real understanding of truth, justice and humility. Not this watered down relativistic rationality that has become American education and catechesis.
Nothing like a little revisionist history. Even the founders thought the masses were morons.

Anyway, this thread has exhausted itself and we’re only repeating our own arguments for or against the issue.

My position was supported by the SCOTUS ruling yesterday.

So I’ll ride off into the subject with a smile and a prayer. 😃

I’m unsubscribing to the thread.

Jim
Yes, such is the wisdom of the 1,00 post limit. By the time we get there, we usually are just repeating ourselves.

I will stick with the thread to the bitter end, though. 🙂

I wasn’t aware you called the Health Care Affordability Act the biggest tax increase in world history.

Had Roberts voted with the other 4 Justices (including Kennedy) the Commerce clause still would have been limited…John Roberts upheld ObamaTax as Constitutional on the most incoherent grounds.

I don’t have any literature, but Mark Levin is a Constitutional scholar and I think he NAILED IT on his show last night.

Generally speaking, they were correct.
All you have to do is go to some of the general anonymous forums to see the lack of intelligence/ignorance/sanity of the general population.

Could be why I like Catholic Answers…people here are so much more intelligent & sane.Even the ones I don’t agree with. 😃

Everybody is trying to figure out why Justice Roberts rewrote the statute. Did he do it because he wanted to help Romney? Did he do it because he was swayed by those who said the court had become too political?

May never know.
I’m going with the latter…Republicans or Conservatives have a tendency to let the Democrat-Media-Complex affect them and they vote Stalin in hopes of gaining their appeasement.
