Here is a decent explanation of why Roberts ought to be impeached.
This is way out there. Chief Roberts made the best decision he could. His message couldn’t be plainer. Elections have consequences. Live with them. As a side note. This does seem to mirror newly elected President Obama’s sentiments. “Elections have consequences, and I won.”

We’ll have to wait and see how the various legal challenges to this act play out. But, take heart.

The rest of the industrial world has survived something similiar. We will to.

It’s not his job to determine if Americans made a foolish mistake in electing Obama or letting the Democrat Congress pass the ACA, it is his job to determine its Constitutionality.

Some points
Sixth, Roberts discusses the constitutionality of such a “tax” by rejecting the plaintiffs’ complaints that the penalty would amount to an unconstitutional “direct tax” (if it were a tax at all) – but Roberts himself never takes the next step of identifying which sort of tax it actually is, if not a “direct” one. Nor does he bother explaining how it can be constitutional if it is another form of taxation. This is all rather abstruse, but the Wall Street Journal absolutely blew away Roberts’ failure to identify what sort of tax it is, and his apparent belief that Congress’ taxing power is infinitely elastic. (Please read the WSJ editorial here.).
Seventh – and this is a real howler – Roberts makes this absurd assertion: “First, and most importantly, it is abundantly clear the Constitution does not guarantee that individuals may avoid taxation through inactivity. A capitation, after all, is a tax that everyone must pay simply for existing, and capitations are expressly contemplated by the Constitution.” This misses the point entirely. A capitation tax is one of the “direct taxes” discussed above, and is assessed equally per person. It is the person, not the inactivity that is being taxed.

As for other industrial nations surviving. Perhaps so, but not too well and the bleak economic clouds over Europe prove how disastrous a nanny-state can be to a nation.

My goodness, then you have limited your CAF experience to threads devoid of conservatives or libertarians. There is frequent and vehement criticism for the rising debt, the deficits, the overspending all of which result in more borrowing. In fact if you analyze most of the objections to taxation, it’s not that people begrudge paying taxes but that they believe their money is being wasted on ineffective, corrupt and useless programs. Politicians being the skunks that they are want to continue their pet projects, and given the objections to raising taxes shove them through with ever increasing levels of the debt ceiling.

While it’s both sides of the aisle I believe the Democrats are far more subject to the temptations to increase levels for old programs or bring on new programs. That we are nearly bankrupt seems to be of little concern.

Bringing this back to the thread, one of the biggest objections to Obamacare IS the spending which will necessarily result in more borrowing, increased deficits and then more howls to increase taxes.

You nailed it!👍

no, they said it was not a tax but in order for it to get passed they lied and said it was a tax

It’s his job to determine if something is constitutional. Which he did. As for the “dark cloud” hanging over Europe.

Let’s remember who’s fault that is… Ours.

How is Europe’s spending problem our fault?

  1. Substitute Rabid ( raging, uncontrollable, zealous, or fanatical) for vehement.
  2. “Usless program” ie they do not benefit from it.
  3. Rising dept, comprised mainly of: Two unfunded wars, and yes the prescription drug plan. (I believe GW’s heart was in the right place. But, he greatly under appreciated the value of incoming revenue.)
Now you’ve “nailed it”.👍

Well, I think your smart enough to know it wasn’t THEIR spending habits.😉

More like ours guys.
1.Gram. Leach, Bliley act. (citigroup)
2. Alan Greenspan, (federal fund rates as low as 1%)
3. Under regulated financial institutions engaging in risky, financial deals. (derivitives- Mortgage backed securities)
4. Cowardly wage slaves (who borrowed, to buy more than they could hope to afford.)

It’s our fault.

good night.

:nope: Never have I seen such a ridiculous explanation.

Wanna try telling me it wasn’t their spending habits again pal?

No wait don’t bother.

You are definitely a man of strong opinions but precious few facts.
  1. Very little on the Right comes close to the vitriol on the Left…Grayson claiming Republicans want you to die, Obama saying Republicans want dirty air, dirty water and to let autistic children fend for themselves, yeah right
  2. Let’s see about useless programs: Green energy that not only wasted billions but also outsourced jobs (Fiskar for example) The only ones benefitting from those programs are Obamas bundlers and donors.
  3. Boy you are fixated on the wars. Look at actual spending and even WITH the two wars the spending of Obama on Stimulus, expanding Food Stamps and other Nanny State programs and the wars look like mere blips on the radar
I think you just like to poke a stick at people. You really don’t have any back up for your posts. Just like to see if we’ll respond. Shame on my for taking the bait

Yep I’m guilty as well, but I really just wanted to see who exactly he was going to blame for Europe’s woes…pretty laughable.

Yeah sometimes it’s almost funny to hear and read the latest version of The Blame Game. I keep thinking Obama will quit blaming President Bush for all the ills of the world but no such luck…it’s his story and he’s stickin’ to it!

What I often wonder is how long Angel Merkel is going to play Lady Bountiful to all of these wayward “children?” Europe is truly a financial mess and she’s too smart to be pulled down with a sinking ship.

Ahem…back to the thread. Wonder if those “great” health programs have anything to do with the fiscal demise of Europe. You know what Lady Thatcher said about running out of OPM. Hopefully we won’t go down the same path.

The Supreme court has always been bought and paid for.

Bobby,
You support John Roberts selling us out?

Somehow, I doubt you will give an honest answer…

The ONLY member of the U.S. Supreme Court ever impeached (and found not guilty BTW) was Samuel Chase in 1804. Are you serious in thinking that there’s ANYONE who will introduce charges of impeachment against Chief Justice Roberts??? 🤷
No, I don’t expect any politician to begin an impeachment proceeding.

Take a hard look at the state at the country. More folks are worried about the BCS Bowl Series verses a College Playoff Game then care about liberty. I first thought Jay Leno’s interviews asking questions of folks regarding national holidays were staged. Now I think they are honest responses. The legacy of history is gone, reverence for the rights of citizens have vanished into a what in it for me expediency.

For his juvenile logic, his abrogation of duty to interpret the law as it was intended and written he ought to lose his job. If he was a law clerk, turning in this type of work he’d been shown the door at once.

No, the country will suffer him, more encroachment on out rights to be left alone are coming. Rule by fine/penalty/tax will increase until moral improves.

Enjoy!🤷

It is not his job to pontificate to the nation on the importance of elections. His job is to rule on legitimacy of law. As written, the language of the law by his own reasoning is illicit. Therefore, he invents an interpretation of the words not found in standard dictionary and proclaims legitimacy.

As far as your understanding how the rest of the industrial world is concerned I don’t think you are keeping up with the news. The Euro zone, China starting to implode, that is only on the economic front. I am more interested in the liberty of people front and that is not looking too good either.

No bother.😃

Curious that you would pick Greece as your example of the europeans. Not Germany, England, France, or others. Perhaps Greece is not a very good example. Remember, they have existed as a country in their present form since 1974. Before that, turmoil, and oppression was their heritage. Not a very good start for the 21st century.

But, greece it is. As I look at your chart, and I compare it with what I know of the country. I see tremendous spikes along about the time the IMF, and Eurozone gave very large short, and medium range LOANS to Greece. While they have struggled to fit into the EUs model. They had made some headway, before the 2008 recession. Now, they are faced with either selling of their public domains, to private European interests. or, loosing even more. Again, not a very good start fot the 21st century.

The other word for austerity, is privitazation.
