It was in the news a few years ago when Cuban actor William Levy had either a baptism or a First Communion done as an adult. Maybe it was both at the same time. Surprising considering he’s had two children but never been married.

I had not heard of him previously but found this article:

peopleenespanol.com/article/william-levy-se-convirtio-la-religion-catolica

It is in Spanish but talks about his conversion a few years ago at the age of 29. From the article it sounds like a reason for his conversion was so that he could marry his girlfriend and mother of his child. However, I read on his wikipedia page that as of 2011 they have split up.

Dion Dimucci, the lead singer from Dion and the Belmonts, is a revert. He wrote a beautiful testimony on Coming Home Network (chnetwork.org) I was delighted to read it, being a fan of his music.

Even though I was born well after the 1950s :(, I’ve always loved the songs* I Wonder Why* and Teenager in Love. I would have loved to live in the 50s!

I haven’t read through every post on this thread, so I don’t know if it was mentioned that David Caruso (CSI Miami) is (not necessarily practicing) Catholic. Also Bobby Flay (Food Network) which he mentioned when he challenged Fr. Patalinghug in his show called Showdown with Bobby Flay.

Again, I apologize if these examples were already mentioned.

Bobby Flay is a Catholic!? Who knew? 🙂

Former Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso is also a Catholic. 🙂

Scott Weiland from Stone Temple Pilots is Catholic. That kind of shocked me, apparently he got out of drugs, and is a practicing Catholic now. I even went to a concert, and he did the Sign of the Cross at the end of their performance.

He even came out with a Christmas album last year. My mother always taught me that if you can’t say something good about a person, don’t say anything at all, so that’s all I’ll say about his Christmas album.

Jordyn Wieber is Catholic. Here’s a quote from her:

Jordyn Wieber – Olympic athlete

Jordyn is a gymnast from St. Jude Parish in DeWitt who is a member of the 2012 Olympic Team. To date, she’s competed in more than two dozen international and national competitions, recently becoming one of two women ever to win the AT&T American Cup in New York. Gymnastics are important to Jordyn, but she knows there is more to life.

“I like to look at my gymnastics ability as a great gift from God,” she says. “Without God in my life, I feel like there would be no meaning.”
Jordyn says her strong faith comes from her parents: Rita and David.
“My parents have always made going to church as a family important,” Jordyn says. “Sometimes we have to split up due to our schedules, but most of the time we are able to get to Mass together. It’s a very special family time and it means a lot to me.”

And her parish raise $11,000.00 to send her family to London:

Did you see her mom clutching her Rosary up in the stands while Jordyn was competing? 🙂

Stephen Colbert is not only Catholic (and a Sunday school teacher), but he sticks up for the Faith on his show, often surprisingly well. He’s quite sharp. 🙂

I guess the celeb who surprised me the most is Michael Moore. He is a former seminarian and still attends Mass regularly.
Somethings Colbert says (and how he says them–and yes I “get” his “coal-bear” character shtick) make me suspect he’s a pretty liberal “cafeteria catholic”–especially about artificial contraception, homosexual issues, and the like.

Michael Moore going to Mass regularly? Really, he really should take Reconcilliation more often–for all the blatant falsities that occur in his movies.

This may be neither here nor there, but I don’t quite think Liam may be an “all the way” Catholic anyway.

Liam met his late wife Natashs Richardson while doing a play together. She was married at the time but that did not stop her from leaving and divorcing her husband for Liam and then marrying Liam.

Ironically, apparently her first husband was married when Natasha met him and HE left HIS wife for Natasha and then married her. Then she left the guy for Liam. Oy Vey.

It may be gossip and inconsequential for some folks here------but I’m making the point that a TRUE Believing Catholic would never acquiese to and engage in immoral behavior like that.

May he has confessed and been absolved of that by his priest—I don’t know----just saying that what he engaged in was totally Anti-Catholic-Beliefs and Morality and is a Sin.
The fact that Natasha’s first “husband” had been legitimatly married to someone else means her “marriage” to him was not valid. So unless Liam had been married to someone else, his marriage to Natasha was valid or could have been declared such

The same is true for the marriage of CS Lewis and Joy Gresham. Joy’s husband was a divorcee. What is ironic is that the anglican Church at the time of the Lewis’ marriage did not make that distinction and the Catholic Church always has.

If Liam Neeson is supposedly so faithful a Catholic, what’s he doing on “The Big C” dallying around with a still-married woman (a fling that’s already immoral because he’s portraying an alternative health practitioner treating her)? Sounds like he’s got some ‘splainin’ to do.
Peter Weller is a devout Catholic yet has played a satanist-cardinal (The Order aka The Sin Eater) as well as a drug-taking homosexual writer (essentially William Burroughs in Naked Lunch). Liam Neeson’s portrayl of Kinsey was before Natasha’s death–but essentialy, its the role, it’s acting. So unless its an outright advocacy one should not really strongly co-identify the role with the actor–unless you want to consider James Earl Jones an advocate for the Dark Side (Darth Vader)

Finely caught up on the thread enough to see this about Mr. Colbert
It says in wikipedia, that “he disagrees with Church teaching on abortion and same sex marriage.” i.e., he’s a typical liberal catholic.

that quote, I believe, is about Michael Moore. I looked it up since, as far as I thought, Colbert was/is devout.

Lion, no offense, but you defend Peter Weller and Liam Neeson, but seem to come down hard on Colbert for playing a caricatured version of conservative political pundits. He does poke fun, but I’ve seen some episodes where he defends Catholicism quite well.

the following is all Wikipedia indicates about Colbert’s religious beliefs.
Colbert is a practicing Roman Catholic and a Sunday school teacher

from Wikipedia about Michael Moore. I never would have thought he was Catholic.

“Moore is a Catholic,[3][20] but has said he disagrees with church teaching on subjects such as abortion[21] and same-sex marriage.[22]”

As I said , I “get” the “coal-bear” character–but you can usualy tell when he is so hamming it up on some conservative position you know that he, “col-bert” does not believe it or really expouse it. But sometimes, he does the same when it comes
Catholic teaching on morals.
