That’s why I don’t buy Michael Moore being Catholic.Well when I think of a Catholic, I think of someone who practices the faith, not someone who is nominally a Catholic because they were baptized as a baby. A Catholic is as a Catholic does, I guess you could say.
Could you cite a source that shows that Colbert is pro-choice? Thanks!Just because hes “Catholic” Doesn’t mean he always has the Catholic Teaching in the front of his mind.
This surprised me when I know he is Pro Choice.
I would say we here at CAF are merely following the tenets, beliefs and standards of Conduct that is the TRUTH of Our Faith. And was set down for us from the very beginning of the faith.Re Liam Neeson, I’d think that he’s far from the only Catholic who has sinned personally, especially when it comes to romance and sex and all that. Mel Gibson comes to mind immediately, certainly Brett Favre who I referenced earlier would also qualify. Now, I know Mel has ties to sedevacantist groups, and to me that throws his Catholicism more into question than do his personal problems. While I have enjoyed my time on CAF for the most part, I do find it somewhat disturbing that people feel free to judge who is a “real Catholic” and who isn’t based on surface appearances…and let’s face it, that’s what we usually judge celebrities on.
Reminds me of how many evangelical Protestants pretty much blackballed Amy Grant after she got divorced, and many assumed she was guilty of adultery as well, though she’s always denied that…sure, she has motivation to lie, but it seems most Hollywood types find nothing scandalous about dating married people, you often find even on semi-official websites that “Celebrity X met his wife when she was married to so-and-so”, with no hint of condemnation. Jerry Seinfeld comes to mind. And most tabloids treat the Aniston/Pitt/Jolie triangle as if both women had equal “right” to Brad’s affections, and don’t give Aniston any points for actually being married to him.
Hmm, maybe I shouldn’t have participated in this topic, if the undertone is the uncharitable “I was surprised so-and-so was Catholic because he or she is such a scandalous sinner”.
That is ACTING in a role, of course. but I sort of see you point. You’re saying the Role and the Series is (however unintentionally) advocating immorality-------I see.If Liam Neeson is supposedly so faithful a Catholic, what’s he doing on “The Big C” dallying around with a still-married woman (a fling that’s already immoral because he’s portraying an alternative health practitioner treating her)? Sounds like he’s got some ‘splainin’ to do.
I don’t remember when I saw it, but I DO remember some segment he did where he seemed to be mocking the Pro-Life movement. That, at the least, I remember. If someone has information that contradicts that, I will be more than happy to revise my stance.Could you cite a source that shows that Colbert is pro-choice? Thanks!

Like… whenever he mentions the Catholic Church he’s very serious about it and whenever he interviews Catholics he’s very respectful about it and doesn’t tease them as much as he does other people.I don’t remember when I saw it, but I DO remember some segment he did where he seemed to be mocking the Pro-Life movement. Let me put it this way----he himself personally may not be Pro-Choice, but the Show he is on is Definitely Liberal and Anti-Conservative in tone. Like its progenitor, The Daily Show.![]()
Ok. I cansee what you are saying. You can usually tell when he’s being serious and when he’s doing a satire though. Like… whenever he mentions the Catholic Church he’s very serious about it and whenever he interviews Catholics he’s very respectful about it and doesn’t tease them as much as he does other people.
And he isn’t nearly as Liberal as the Daily Show. Not even close.
EDIT: I posted this before I read the post above mine’s link. It says exactly what I just said, lol.
“The Big C” killed off Marlene (suicide), and I’m still bummed about it. (NON-SPOILER since it happened two episodes ago.) I can’t believe it. She was the best thing about the show. I don’t think I’ll be watching it again. It’s no fun without her. She was the comic relief to Cathy’s neuroses. Now she’s gone. Thanks, Showtime, for ruining another good show after one season. First they ruin “Weeds,” now they ruin “The Big C.” Aaargghh…That is ACTING in a role, of course. but I sort of see you point. You’re saying the Role and the Series is (however unintentionally) advocating immorality-------I see.
I don’t know----I think it comes down to not watching a series that advocates such things and also to fervently pray that Secularist, Immoral Thinking like that is defeated and Our Society goes back to Agreed-Upon Christian Values, and as such go back to promoting wholesome Family Fare in its Movies and TV Programming----which I fervently pray happens but don’t realistically think will happen within my lifetime.
Also, to write to Liam asking him to reconsider his choice of roles given his rediscovered Catholic Faith?![]()
