Oh yes. I’ve watched that interview over and over again. I think it’s really funny. I love how he can be funny and serious.
 
When I read the comments in this site a few hours ago I thought of famous converts to the Catholic Church but had to take some time out to remember their names. Finally they came to me and wondered if anyone else had thought of them. First, Laura Ingraham; 2nd - Robert Novak; and 3rd - Tony Blair. I was very surprised about Robert Novak because I believe he is Jewish. In addition, I think Tony Blair’s wife is Catholic(but I’m not sure about this). Any other “famous” people you know as converts???

The Duchess of Kent. She is a volunteer at a night shelter for the homeless where everyone calls her by name: Katherine, not by title. Americans would be familiar with her as the Royal presenter of Wimbledon trophies.

Did Novak convert before or after he compromised our nation’s security by outing a CIA agent? I’m still in awe that such a breach never affected his conscience.

I have no idea about him or anyone else that sins. I don’t know if he confessed or didn’t so I’m not going to judge on here. The list is long of those who are catholic in title only but I know nothing about their personal lives or how often they confess or if they struggle with their decisions.

Anyway, I’m Surprised that so-n-so was Catholic. 😉
 
Mel Gibson suprised me the most when I found out. For decades the guy has been in movies as a violence-mongering bloodbath-making action hero. In Lethal Weapon there was a scene where Danny Glover tells Riggs (Gibson), “Man, I’m almost retired and I get stuck with a psycho like you. God really hates me, man.” Riggs (Gibson) replies, “do what I do.” Danny says, “what’s that?” Gibson says, “hate him back!”

Movies like “Payback” are revenge-driven nasty murder flicks and it just has always seemed like Gibson was an unstable, irreverent, iconoclastic type. Lots of sex scenes in his movies, violence, profanity, and then BAMMMMMM he’s Catholic and makes the Passion of the Christ!?

Of course now he has dumped his wife, impregnated a Russian chick, beat her up and has dumped her and abused her…so I don’t think he’s been reading “Imitation of Christ” too much lately and really praying that rosary!? :eek:
 
I love Mel Gibson and I really don’t believe most of the things the media says about him
 
I was watching EWTN recently (the Bishops meeting) and this little program called searching for faith or face or praying for peace came on and it had BING CROSBY…I love his rendition of White Christmas and never knew he was Catholic (he was before my time but still)…My dad said he knew that Bing had been Catholic.

And I find it ironic/amusing that Liam Niesson is the Voice of Aslan in the Narnia films. What a perfect choice for the Christ figure’s voice: a devout Catholic. 😉
 
So you’re basically saying that the police were lying and the recordings of him telling them all the $#!% the Jews stuff was made up? And you’re saying that the broken teeth and physical abuse his live-in girlfriend showed to the dentist was self-inflicted? And you’re saying his verbal abuse, death threats, and horrific vulgarity that was so sickeningly recorded on the telephone were faked and computer-generated? The fact that his wife of 25years divorced him for a myriad of reasons was also not real and Mel’s own self-admitted drunkenness, drug problems, abusive personality, and insanity were a dream?

The guy’s a wacko. Let’s face it. He needs our prayers bigtime. The fact that he made the Passion of the Christ shouldn’t get him a free pass with Catholics in a forum IMO.

Sorry I just don’t believe media stories. When Mel Gibson himself says he did those things then I’ll believe it. Until then, not so much.
 
They’ve played the tapes on television on every single different channel? The abuse was well-documented. Did you believe O.J. was innocent too and that the media framed him? If you wait to hear people in their own words, Hitler has to get off the hook, too. He never admitted the Final Solution. Come on, Shacoria, seriously, this guy has deep-seeded fundamentally serious issues…

I’m a huge Road Warrior, Lethal Weapon, Braveheart, Passion fan. Love Mel’s movies but Mel is crazy cookoo and on a path that is dark indeed. If you want to pretend the guy’s tickle-me Elmo then it’s a free country 😛

And the taped conversations of him threatening to murder her, calling her every name in the book, saying stuff that’d make your toes curl, plus she had her face kicked in by him and teeth knocked out, add to that he impregnated a woman after a divorce all equals hypocrisy squared…

It says in wikipedia, that “he disagrees with Church teaching on abortion and same sex marriage.” i.e., he’s a typical liberal catholic.

I think Mel Gibson is a great guy who did none of these things. You don’t agree with me. To each his own I suppose but I just don’t buy any of the media stuff and probably never will 🤷
 
That’s fine but what I’m saying is that you are deliberately blocking out reality in order to maintain a view of someone because you like him. I don’t think that’s healthy but that’s ok. There is a wealth, a huge depth, of evidence that he’s not only nuts but an abusive, cruel, bigotted man. You can convince yourself that the media is out to get him but the people closest to him and most Catholics have seriously condemned his behavior (notice I don’t say him, but his behavior) and he’s become a black sheep. It’s not a kangaroo court of public opinion but fact. I always find it disturbing when people ignore facts to maintain a certain point of view. I’m sure there are JFK fans who refuse to believe Kennedy was a womanizing sex maniac, Germans who refuse to accept the fact that Hitler killed millions of Jews, Clinton supporters who think the media concocted his affairs, and Nixon fans who think Watergate was a media hoax. As you say, to each his own. I just like the world of facts and reality. I’m a weirdo 😛

I don’t think I am blocking out reality. I think the media makes up things every day. Every time I turn on the tv they’re saying such and such is pregnant or whatever. I just don’t trust anything I see on tv. I just don’t. But I think we’ve reached an impasse in this conversation. so really no need for me to be subscribed to this thread anymore, no? My favorite celebrity catholic is Mark Wahlberg, nuff said 👍
