The actor in the controversial new Cadillac commercial (you can view it here: youtube.com/watch?v=XSky3o910s4) (well, it’s controversial nowadays, it wouldn’t have been 10 years ago) is Neil McDonough, who has been in Band of Brothers and Desperate Housewives.

McDonough is Catholic, and was replaced as a lead in the TV series Scandals because he refused to do explicit lovemaking scenes with Virginia Madsen, as he believes explicit scenes, even if done for a film, would be against his moral principles and would constitute cheating on his wife. He’s lost some roles and some serious money because of his religious beliefs: deadline.com/2010/03/no-sex-please-im-neal-mcdonough/

I really admire this. Many here give a pass for such actions in the name of “art” and when brought up there’s usually the “what’s the big deal?” sort of response. It seems McDonough has a sound moral compass and doesn’t let his work get in the way of his everyday common sense and dignity.

Also, why was the commercial controversial? I can’t seem to remember - had to do with the work ethic theme, right?

I saw Jim Gaffigan the comedian last night. He’s known for not cursing, etc - which was the case. His act is mostly about food - and hilarious. Unfortunately he makes some jokes about the Bible, and Christ directly. I was just reading that he considers himself Catholic, his wife is Catholic - I don’t think he means to be hurtful in any way. I posted on his Facebook page that he doesn’t need those “jokes”, and that they are offensive to some people, etc.
Jim Gaffigan is hilarious, and underrated as a comedian. His whole thing about Hot Pockets from years ago was the best.

I’m not sure what Michael Keaton’s position is on the Catholic faith, but at the Golden Globes he paid tribute to his hardworking parents. He said he never remembers a time when his mother wasn’t going to mass, praying her rosary, or volunteering at the local hospital.

Not only is he Catholic, but he regularly defends Catholicism on his show. 👍

Actually, there are many Catholics on the Fox News Channel.
I heard that Ted Turner saw ashes on the foreheads of CNN employees on Ash Wednesday and, after having to ask… he said… Oh… I thought they were all over at Fox…

I watch a lot of EWTN and see some of the Catholics that are mentioned in this thread on the “World Over Live” program. I am never surprised when I find out that someone is Catholic. I can’t think of a better religion to belong to than the one that Christ founded. I am sometimes surprised that I found Catholicism. I am beyond grateful that the generations of Catholics through 20 centuries have kept the message going.

Robert Davi. He is a famous actor known for playing villains, such as Jake Fratelli in The Goonies (1985) Agent Johnson in Die Hard (1988) (I consider him a villain as he was willing to “lose 20-25% of the hostages” if you recall the movie) and the drug lord Franz Sanchez in the Bond Movie License to Kill (1989).

So it was surprising to fidn out he is a devout Catholic who donates a lot of money to support the Church and it’s causes, and has spoken about his faith.

Very cool to hear that.

I see a lot of these “Catholics” like Michael Moore or Tom Hanks are quite cowardly

Dr. Schwarzenegger on the other hand. Epic Catholic

Tom Hanks is actually Eastern Orthodox. Arnold Schwarzenegger declared himself to be an atheist in his autobiography, I’m not sure if he still considers himself one.

Romance novelist Nora Roberts also tells of the hard working Irish Catholic upbringing from her devout parents, and credits it for her productivity as a writer but she no longer classifies herself as practicing Catholic.

Arnold Schwarzenegger has stated for most of his youth he was irreligious, but he is currently a practicing (Church going) Catholic who believes in God. He returned to his faith under the influence of his then wife, Maria Shriver. He also mentioned in a Larry King interview that his in laws, specifically his father in law, Sargent Shriver, often gave him religious books to read.

I also remember at Reagan’s funeral I saw him make the sign of the Cross.

Good to hear it.

Chief Sitting Bull and Buffalo Bill Cody
William Frederick “Buffalo Bill” Cody is one of the most iconic figures of the Wild West. His Wild West show made him one of the most famous people in the country. Cody was known as a trapper, a soldier, a Medal ofHonor recipient, bullwhacker, “Fifty-Niner” in Colorado, a Pony Express rider in 1860, wagonmaster, and a stagecoach driver. But Cody also became a Catholic the day before his death.
It is believed that Cody was inspired to become a Catholic by his friend Sitting Bull, himself a Catholic convert. Who could’ve seen that one coming?
