Derrick,

Thank you for the updates. They are extremely sad and maddening. We must not forget to forgive and to pray. If we do not forgive and pray the sadness will turn to anger and anger leads to vengeance and then we stop being Christians.

Christ was beat, scourged and murdered and he did not bring forth lighting from heaven to smote his enemies nor did he bring down columns of fire to fry his captors. No, he asked his father to forgive them.

We most pray for the martyrs and those hurt and injured and their families but we must also pray for those causing death and destruction that they might find contrition and repentances.

Thanks again
Dear Maui
It took me some time to reflect on what you said. We are basically the only people who knows what it means to forgive and pay the price that needs to be paid for forgiveness.
It is also logical that nothing on earth happens without Gods will.
That the orphans are cared for solely by Christians, since they are children of lepers is of no consequence to the armed and well paid hired mobs. Mobs paid by big contributions from Indians in your country called by some the saffron dollar. Where will the children go? Who will counsel the victims of rape?
The priests nuns and pastors may not all be saints but they genuinely care for the poor and have served them tirelessly. Why are the poor nuns raped and priests burnt, and pastors hacked to pieces? All of us ask this question and in the end surrender it to the heart of our Lord.
Just today I called a priest who told me sadly that a 100 year old church was burnt. Over a week of Hindu ethnic cleansing and the world is silent.
Let us pray for it is by the Lords mercies we are not consumed for his compassions fail not.
God bless
Derrick

I think it is a sin that the National News does not cover these killings more than a mere three or 4 sentences. I understand that the country is looking at the candidates for President and all, but the killings of Catholics and Christians have been going on for decades. I have someone, who is Hindu, who refuses the killings, and further thinks that the Catholics are doing it themselves for publicity. I ask this community to pray for our Christian brothers and sisters who truly are being marytr for their faith. May God have mercy on them all…LayDominican

Dear Child of Father Dominic
The press and government in India can be understood as they share the religion of our persecutors, the press and media of America cannot be so excused, as they share a common kinship with the now well over 100 martyrs raped, hacked to pieces and burnt alive for refusing to renounce Christ.
Hindus never acknowledge the atrocities that their well funded right wing regularly commit. They always try to pick the moral high ground of being secular and non-violent when it is truly a total travesty of reality.
Just like the Nazi era, lies are publicly repeated so often that they are considered truth by all.
And in this era of darkness we who believe know that everything happens by Gods will who even in the face of this utter terror can make his light shine.
Holy Father Dominic pray for us.
God bless

FR. THOMAS CHELLEN DESCRIBES THE ORISSA MOB ORDEAL
Fr. Thomas Chellen, director of the pastoral center that was destroyed with a bomb, had a narrow escape after a Hindu mob nearly set him on fire. Currently undergoing treatment at a Catholic hospital in Orissa’s capital Bhubaneswar, Fr. Chellen had this horrifying experience to share with Catholic News Service:

“They had poured kerosene on my head, and one held a matchbox in his hands to light the fire. But thanks to divine providence, in the end, they did not do that. Otherwise, I would not have been there to tell this horror,” the 55-year-old priest, director of the pastoral center at Konjamendi in the Indian state of Orissa, told Catholic News Service in a telephone interview from his hospital bed Aug. 28.

When a Hindu mob of 500 people broke into the pastoral center around noon Aug. 24, Father Chellen said he fled through the backyard with another priest and a nun.

“It was heartbreaking for us to watch from a distance the entire complex go up in smoke,” said Father Chellen, who had supervised the construction of the center that opened in 2001 and could accommodate 200 people.

“They vandalized everything and set it on fire. It has been reduced to ashes,” he added.

As the three watched from a distance, some other priests told them to flee.

“We fled to the jungles and came in the night to take shelter in the house of a Hindu friend and spent the night there,” Father Chellen said, adding that the second priest left them to join other priests.

The following morning, he said, the Hindu family moved the priest and nun to an adjacent vacant house and locked it to give the impression that no one was inside.

However, the Hindu mobs overheard the priest speaking on his cell phone, broke into the room and dragged him and the nun outside.

“They began our crucifixion parade,” said Father Chellen. The gang of about 50 armed Hindus “beat us up and led us like culprits along the road” to the burned pastoral center.

“There they tore my shirt and started pulling off the clothes of the nun. When I protested, they beat me hard with iron rods. Later, they took the sister inside (and) raped her while they went on kicking and teasing me, forcing (me) to say vulgar words,” said the priest who has cuts, bruises and swollen tissue all over his body and stitches on his face.

“Later both of us, half-naked, were taken to the street, and they ordered me to have sex with the nun in public, saying nuns and priests do it. As I refused, they went on beating me and dragged us to the nearby government office. Sadly, a dozen policemen were watching all this,” he said.

Angry at his plea to the police for help, the mob beat the bleeding priest again.***

Later, a government official and members of the mob took the priest and the nun to the police station, where Father Chellen said he was kicked in the face.

“The four-hour ordeal ended when a senior police officer arrived in the evening,” said Father Chellen.

The priest said one of the most hurtful things about the incident was that some local Hindus whom he knew were watching the events and ignored his requests for help.

Shame on India, Europe and the world

It is shameful that India’s Christians, an important element for the country’s social and economic development, are being massacred whilst the world’s governments and humanitarian associations remain silent in what is another example of “Christianophobia.” Italian bishops call on the faithful to take part tomorrow in a day of prayer and fasting in remembrance of the Blessed Teresa of Kolkata.

Christian activist urges Italy and Europe not to close their eyes to human rights issues in India

Appeal is made to Italian PM Prodi. Economic interests should not monopolise relations. India should be helped to protect religious freedom and respect minorities and Dalits. Otherwise, there is no development.

****Orissa: after his calvary Father Thomas willing to go back to serve those who hurt him

He was among the first Christians targeted by the fury of radical Hindus. For the first time since he was attacked he speaks out. After being seized, beaten, wounded and stripped he was almost burnt alive. It took police two days to free him. AsiaNews correspondent in Mumbai Nirmala Carvalho was able to talk to him.

Was looking up into the history and culture of Orissa -seems a land of long history of wars …temples dedicated to gods of destrucion and lust …(the capital is named after siva ’ lord of the three worlds '!) and from where hinduism and buddhisma got exported to SE Asia !

Is The Word of God and The Fire of The Holy Spirit getting too close to the belly of the beast …

Come tourist season , hope all these news of violence would keep many of Chritian heritage (esp. from the west ) from coming in contact with any unholy influences from wanting to see the glory of the prince of this world , and avoid evil from lukewarmness of divided hearts !

Immaculate Heart of Mary pray for us !

May His Mercy be ever with us all and our own forefathers - for any and all sins of omission or commission that may have contributed to the persistent prevalence of paganism in our midst !
This is another problem, lack of understanding on everyones side. Siva or shiva is not evil or cruel or even close to a god of lust, he destroys deire after all. I will agree with Shiva being called the destroyer but is also called the benefactor, the benign one. The name siva or shiva also means the pure one and no impurity can stand the utterence of his name that comes from his mouth. Sound familar? Shiva is good and destroyes all evil and impurity in the world. What you are saying is equavalent to saying Jesus is evil and or cruel because he will destroy the world when he returns too. Lets just study more andfindour similarities before we say things with limited information and a lck of cultural understanding.

As Deacon Ed it is hard to know what to say.

These actions are unspeakable - what these people are thinking is beyond me and really irrelevant. Their murderous actions simply must be stopped!

Maybe all we can do is spread the word of what is happening, and refuse to let anybody gloss over or deny it.

What is so evident is that Satan is being encroached upon in this Pagan land and is fighting back. What is needed is prayer. The rosary turned back the Islamic invasion of Europe at the battle of Lepanto. It can also work here also. Everyone, pray and pray and pray some more. Pray the Rosary, and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. These are two most powerful prayers. Our Lady and her Son, Our Mother and our Redeemer. Pray, Pray, and Pray.some more

Hi Derrick

I looked at what I wrote and I too had to reflect long and hard because I was amazed I wrote that. Today at Mass our priest spoke on Luke 5: 33-39 no one puts new wine in old wine skins. He explained how Christ references his sacrifice by being crushed like the grapes are crushed to make wine. Christ was crushed in a way that we could never experience. Because he carried on his way to Golgotha the sins of the world, past, present and future. That is the true Cross.

As he explained this (I have much abbreviated his homily) he smashed his fist into his palms and rotated. It was very vivid to see this large man do that. He then explained that when Peter asked how many times must we forgive; Jesus said to him 70 x 7 or always no matter what.

In there lies Christianity and our witness; anyone can be angry and strike back but only the blessed offer their other cheek or their cloak or walk 2 miles or their lives. For Jesus said, there is no greater love than to give one’s life for their friends.

Remember the poem by Mary Stevenson, where a man was walking on a beach and he saw 2 sets of foot prints in the sand. One was his and the other was Christ. The footprints represented his life and he noticed that at times there was only one set of foot prints. It was at this time that he experienced the most trials and tribulation in his life, the most despair. The man turned to Christ and asked him “Lord, why did you leave me alone when I needed you the most?” The Lord replied, “The times when you have seen only one set of footprints in the sand, is when I carried you”.

I keep you and our brothers in Christ in my prayers. Keep up dating the information.

Peace be with you,

Mauricio

I am so so sorry this is happening, I will pray and offer up my communion today for all who are being persecuted!

****US Commission on International Religious Freedom | UCIRF
USCIRF Urges Decisive Action by Central Government to Stop Communal Violence in Orissa
According to news reports, at least 20 people have already been killed, including pastors and nuns, in what has been framed as “retaliatory violence” against Christians, and over 500 homes and at least 17 churches and prayer houses have been destroyed in rioting. At least 10,000 Christians, reportedly including Catholics, Baptists, Lutherans, Adventists, and others, have been forced to flee their homes, and the actual number may be even higher. The state government’s imposition of a state-wide curfew and deployment of police forces have failed to quell the ongoing violence targeting the Christian minority. An additional 80 homes were reportedly destroyed on Tuesday.

The Commission supports Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s pledge to offer urgently-needed assistance packages to survivors of the communal riots. However, post-riot humanitarian aid does not obscure the need for both the Orissa state and the Indian central government to take action to address persistent sectarian tensions in Orissa, and to prevent future eruptions of violence.

Where is the outcry of nations over these atrocities? Why is the world silent? Why has this not even made any of the news networks in our country? When I tell people about all that has been going on, they look at me as if I was making it up and are clueless. Are we the only ones with any concern or caring about these persecutions? Spread the word as much as you can. We have got to get this into the minds of people. Before anything can be done they have to know, but are totally ignorant of this at this time.

It is not news to the MSM since it is against Christians. Since it seems Christianity is only to be vilified by them, it only can be reported if they are doing something wrong. If the roles were reversed, every major news outlet would be there reporting. It makes you wonder what else the MSM is not reporting or misrepresenting.

Of course, IMO, that happens whenever they open their mouths or put something down on paper.
