Eric, on July 7th, Pope Benedict XIV signed the Motu Proprio which releases the Latin mass so that any priest can say the Traditional Mass without permission of the bishop! That’s exciting news, especially for folks like me whose bishop will not grant an indult.Pardon my ignorance but what news about the Latin mass? And how has that helped to priests to chastise dissent?
The pope is hoping that the return of the Latin Mass will have an influence on the Novus Ordo mass, which will remain the normative mass, and hopes that it will influence it so that it is practiced as it was meant to be after Vatican II. The priests who wish to say the Latin mass, and the priests who wish to say a more traditional NO mass know they are being backed up by the pope. Here’s an excellent link. An interview by talk show host Hugh Hewitt (who used to be an altar boy) with Fr. Joseph Fessio. It will explain the whole situation a lot better than I can! LOL
