+Gracias says Synod final report will be addressed to Pope Francis, not to the world. [Which could mean that the language may not be to everyone’s liking and can lead to misunderstanding. Also means it is likely Pope Francis will write a document to release to the world sometime after.]

+Gracias says “internal forum” solution to Communion problem is possible and deserves study

+Gracias says, apropos of Communion question, “we are all on the path of searching,” no solution yet but hopeful

+Gracias: world and its challenges have changed a lot since 1980 family Synod so Synod will have new answers – but doctrine unchanged

+Gracias says goal for Synod final report is text that expresses everyone’s concerns and proposes pastoral approaches acceptable to all

+Gracias says drafting committee approves contents of Synod final report but Synod secretariat does the actual writing and editing

+Gracias says drafting committee considered the “mind of the house” when evaluating suggestions for Synod final report

+Gracias: Synod to get (Italian) draft text Thur PM, hear final draft read aloud Sat AM, vote Sat PM, point by point & for whole doc

Thanks for taking notes.

At an October 22 briefing at the Vatican, Cardinal Oswald Gracias said that the committee drafting a final statement for the Synod of Bishops had received several hundred suggested …

Hopefully we will have a clear understanding when it is released to the world. I fully support the Pope being the first person to read about the Synod decisions.

The bishops of the Synod will be making recommendations to the Holy Father. It looks like it will be a long report and many of the recommendations will be for further study. Eventually we hope the Holy Father will issue any decisions based upon the recommendations in either an apostolic exhortation, an encyclical or similar document. There may be a summary issued by the Holy Father shortly after the Synod, but no one has said yet.

“We tried to present all the issues" raised by the Assembly, Card Gracias said, but did not lay out “all the answers”. The Church’s “doctrine remains the same, and everyone agrees on the indissolubility of marriage, a great gift of God,” but “we [also] seek new ways to help families in a new sociological, political, economic, and ideological climate".

I hope someone explains this to the media so they will go away. I know it is selfish but I don’t want to be tripping over the media when I visit Rome at the end of next week.🙂 . I planned my trip so I could be in Rome when Pope Francis is at home - you never know, I could bump into him. 😃
They had a briefing on it today.

I hope you do see the pope.
