What??? didn’t you read the bold of #77… please slow down and read it again…***Therefore it is a grave abuse to relegate the tabernacle to a room or to an area at the back of a church or to place it behind seats for the people. ***

Sorry… I can’t do much better than that… your refusal to except it is mind boggling… the Christian in you can honestly sit there and say that this writing doesn’t support the idea of the tabernacle being placed towards the front of the faithful’s Church more so than in a seperate chapel???

It is fine for you to state your opinion of wanting it to be in a seperate chapel, but to say that these writings support it more than being in the front is absurd… and I believe you realize that but have hit that point of no return with this thread…

Are you saying that the only options for an adoration chapel/shrine is BEHIND the seats for the people or other such objectionable area???

I cannot believe that you really believe that.

You might not have seen such areas properly done but PLEASE stop abusing a segment indicating what is not appropriate layout as if it negates every other possible option for locating the tabernacle outside of the sanctuary.

You were the one that suggested it be placed out of sight because it takes away from the mass, that is what I was referring to, and you absolutely know it… please quit twisting my words into something you know they are not:tsktsk: …

It says it should be placed in view of the faithful not out of view because it is a distraction… this is the main point I’m getting at and your suggested placement goes against this… plain and simple…

“during the entire Mass our focus is not to be on the tabernacle.”

Joann,

What would be wrong with, say during the readings of the Liturgy of the Word, meditating upon the readings all-the-while staring at the tabernacle asking our Lord to help me understand them? 🤷 (I ask this with all charity and respect)

I cannot see a problem with this.

I agree with you that during the Liturgy of the Eucharist our focus should be the Altar (which *symbolizes *Christ by the way – CCC 1383)

But to say “during the entire Mass our focus is not to be on the tabernacle” seems a tad – um, inflexible. Can you expound?
There are four modes of Christ’s presence in the Mass. In the Assembly, in the Priest, in the Word proclaimed and in a unique way in the Eucharist. Each of these modes of presence has a special place or focus in the church. The assembly in the nave, the priest at the chair, the Word at the ambo and the Eucharist on the Altar. The focus is on each of these modes during parts of the mass. The assembly during processions, the priest when he is offering prayer, the word when it is being proclaimed and the Eucharist during the anaphora and communion. When the word is being proclaimed our attention and focus should be at the ambo.

I am not speaking out against the tabernacle. I for one like to see it in the sancutary. I spend at least a 1/2 hour a day in prayer in front of the tabernacle and I promote reverence and respect for the presence of Christ in the tabernacle. But during Mass my focus is elsewhere.

When did genuflecting before the tabernacle cease to be the acceptable mode of worship? I understand the elderly and others with physical disability bowing. It seems the acceptable practice today in most Churches is to bow and some don’t even do that before stepping into the pew to sit down. Just wondering…😦

I said NOT IN THE SANCTUARY and I said I favored a separate chapel. That is NOT the same as ‘out of sight’.

I NEVER suggested anything that fell into the category of the abuses you listed - please go back and re-read what I ACTUALLY posted.

It is an abuse to HIDE the tabernacle - separate chapels/shrines do not hide the tabernacle.

There is NOTHING in the guidelines quoted that calls for the tabernacle to be continuously visible during mass and as long as the abusive practices are avoided other locations for chapels/shrines are acceptable.

Feel free to start a separate thread.

actually he has you here. you did not say you were in favor of abuses you did say you would like the tabernacle “in another location” which is the same as “in a closet”. In fact you have been pandering for another location this whole thread like the hundreds of years the tabernacle has been in the sanctuary is sooo wrong but now we have you to save us from such curruption. According to this quote the tabernacle has no business being in another building. And just for the record he did not list abuses. He gave no list whatsoever. maybe you have a guilty conscience or something, but whatever the case he did not list an abuse. he said…

 which is confusing because the quote says the tabernacle should NOT be behind the seats of people. So from what this quote says NO the adoration chapel/shire containing the tabernacle should NOT be behind the seats of the people. So your objection in retrospect makes no sense whatsoever. please clarify what you meant here.

Thank you Joannm for responding to my post. 🙂

You say: “When the word is being proclaimed our attention and focus should be at the ambo.”

I agree that we need to be focused on the proclaimed Word – however, I don’t see a problem occasionally looking at the tabernacle – where Christ’s presence is located in a unique and substantial way compared to His presence in the other ways He is present – to ask our Lord to help me understand the scriptures. 🤷

I just don’t see a problem with this.

Can you recommend some good reading material so I can better understand and focus on the sacrifice of the Mass? I like to read about the liturgy. 👍

Thank you for responding charitably – and peace to you. 😃

There is only one clarification – and it goes to the root cause of your confusion – you and the other poster are turning a very blind eye to the actual words of my posts and are inserting your own words for what is actually written. (FYI - the abuses are listed in the quote the other poster used.)

that is the quote the other poster used I lifted it directly from the conversation. We are not turning a blind eye to the words of you posts. You on the other hand are not reading what is plain on the page.

If you are not turning a blind eye then you are just deliberately rewriting what I actually posted (as well as selectively editing the quotes) to suit yourself.

reread it if you like that is your exact quote. Now you are saying I am lying to make my argument stronger. everyone here can clearly see that this is your exact quote you wrote only a few posts higher in the thread. Now I think this conversation is over before I say something you might regret.

I am not saying you are lying. You are, however, deliberately misrepresenting what has been posted - for example claiming I said something (hiding or putting the tabernacle out of sight) that I did not post.
