The Lutherans? I don’t know. They still celebrate too much what Martin Luther did. They consider him a hero. Would they undo what he, their hero, did?

I think that a lot of Anglicans who become Catholic really want the ROMAN liturgy, NOT the Anglican Use.

I remember reading that in England, there were some Anglican “priests” who who would “say Mass” using the old Roman Ritual(in Latin), while the choir was singing in English. Some of these men, I think, may have converted to Catholicism. They did not want an Anglican Use.

I count myself among those former Anglicans who wants to be completely “Roman”. I have no desire for the Anglican Use, but since Rome says it’s valid, of course I accept it!🙂

Actually, the Anglian Use can not be used in England. It is forbidden. It was something that was worked out by the Vatican when it made the Anglican Use Liturgy as they did not wish to anger the Anglican bishops in England.

VATICAN CITY - As the Anglican Communion threatens to break up, one large group of Anglicans is blazing a trail to Rome, and another could follow suit.

The Traditional Anglican Communion, an autonomous group of 400,000 clergy and laity separate from the Anglican Communion, has drawn up detailed plans on how to come into full communion with the Holy See.
It should be noted that the Traditional Anglican Communion is not part of the 70+million member Anglican Communion.

This being said, if the TAC can come into communion, many Third-World Anglicans will be VERY interested.

Blessings,

This sounds wonderful… just a couple issues hold this up.

One, the Anglicans would need to be conditionally re-ordained (or at least their Bishops would need to receive valid ordination from Catholics) unless some of them were ordained validly by Old Catholics, or in Abp Hepworth’s case, already ordained by the Church as a Priest. Anglican orders are “absolutely null and utterly void” still.

Secondly, what to do about a married Episcopacy? Even the Orthodox do not have that. There hasn’t been a married Episcopacy in Christendom since a couple of centuries after the Patristic days. Married Priests, fine, but married Bishops?
Two points:

One – I think that you will find that the TAC has been EXTREMELY careful with regard to their Apostolic Succession. The validity of Orders will not be nearly the problem as it might be with “mainstream” Anglicanism.

Two – The prominent bishops involved have already promised to lay down their episcopacy. (Not unlike Dr. Graham Leonard, former Anglican Bishop of London) If this happens, I don’t see an “issue”.

Blessings,

As a former Anglican, I wonder if (with respect) you understand the Anglican Use. The Anglican Use is (with some minor differences) essentially the pre-Vatican II liturgy in English. The “Anglican Missal” was essentially the old Mass in 16th century English.

As a former Anglican (with VERY clean Apostolic Succession pedigree) who hopes for regularization within the bosum of the fullness of the faith, I would rejoice if I were assigned to an “Anglican Rite” parish – AND I would rejoice if I were assigned to a typical Catholic parish.

But my becoming Catholic does NOT require that I disparage the beauty, the goodness, and the truth of what WAS of value in the Anglican liturgy.

Blessings,

I’ve never been to an Anglican Church but I agree with David, because I studied the English Reformation. The English Book of Common Prayer is in many ways a translation of the Old Latin Mass. However Cramner and I’m sure Elizabeth’s guys did leave some room for an interpertation.

I want to also note that the English Reformation wasn’t something many English people choose. It was kind of forced on them from the state, and I think that needs to be born in mind too before people talk about “rewards” for schism. The Catholic Church frankly could have done a lot more for English Catholics than they did…

I do agree though that creating a new Western rite could be dangerous, but well what about the bishops/pastors etc. I think there are differences, as for the celibacy issue. I don’t know I see the Catholic point on it, But well as a former Protestant who studied at a seminary, I see the Protestant point about celibacy too. For me I’m just going to go with whatever the Catholic Church decides.

I think honestly though that the people are right it eventually comes down to whose authority do you accept?

On the issue of liturgy, as someone who’s currently in the TAC and is in the process of becoming Catholic, if there were even an Anglican Use parish nearby, I would go there in a heartbeat.

I hope it works out between the two. I hope that all the leaders involved in the process on this is guided by the Holy Spirit to make the right decision.

But I don’t want the old Mass in 16th century English. I want the old Mass in the official Latin text.🙂

I have realised, after investigating Catholicism, that what I personally want is the pure Roman Rite, and I wish that I had found it before Anglicanism. I actually wish that I had never been an Anglican.

My inclinations are traditional Roman, and not Anglican.

These are my personal feelings; as I said before I certainly agree that the Anglican Use is valid.🙂

but what about married bishop?
My understanding is that a married Anglican Bishop been accepting into the CC would function only as a married priest. I think this happened in Ft. Worth TX.

I think its the other way around. My AU parish started with 18 people. We now have about 400-500 families and most are from regular parishes that fall in love with the AU liturgy. I did

If many more Anglicans are wishing to come into full communion with Rome this may change… I would bet on it.

I don’t know how far you are from Scranton but there will be an AU parish there soon. I’m not familiar with the geography of Pennsylvania.

If anybody is interested on the AU Liturgy, see this site

Maybe they could resurrect the Sarum Use of the Roman Rite for a possible Anglican Catholic Church? Just a thought…

A rite is already in use in a handful of former Episcopal parishes that converted in whole to the Roman Catholic Church. It is the Anglican Use.

Here is a link to one of the parishes.

Our Lady of Walsingham Catholic Church

There is a link off that page to the Liturgy, you can also do a Google search and find much, much more on it.
