I can understand your bridesmaids’ concerns-- especially those who do not look so good in orange or fuscia and have to fork out money for a dress in a color they abhor.
I don’t think I said my bridesmaids had any concerns. The three of them love it. There’s a few other people that are wondering how the colors will look together but I’m working on it 🙂

Other than your groom, I wouldn’t worry too much what others think. If your bridesmaids like it, go for it.

Thanks Shiann! In other news…kinda…I’m thinking about orange silk lillies and pink something for my bouquet and have each girl (3 of them) holding one or the other.

The dress in the middle is what I want for my bridesmaids. but maybe in pink with the orange ribbon
I have seen that dress in person… it is an interesting combo.

I would agree with the poster who said melon, but perhaps a dark blush? That would be lovely.

I did my own wedding, and I am starting a wedding “planning” (more like assisting) business. I would be glad to give you a hand free of charge. When you’re ready of course.

The colors are personal taste, only thing I would worry about are those bare shoulders in Church

I think they sound like great wedding colors! I think that the “tackiness” of some bridesmaid dresses actually comes not with the color, but with cheap fabric. Do you know how sometimes you can have two of the “same” dresses and one looks great while the other one looks trashy? It’s all in the sewing and the fabric.

this is very true, also modesty plays a factor, and especially, proper fit, including proper foundation garments. for the record I think the color combo is fabulous, but I don’t have to wear it.

Very true.

Just to “warn” the OP- many of us are traditionally minded, so the comments that we have regarding bare shoulders and such is for modesty and proprietary purposes.

BTW- have you joined Our Lady’s Brides?

I am sort of pre-planning my wedding. there hasn’t been an actual engagement ring but we both know we are going to get married and we are planning on the date of May 2nd 2009. I have chosen the colors I want for my bridesmaids but I have received mixed reactions. Just so you know my personality is loud, fun, and bubbly. I tend to lean towards bright colors (my Confirmation banner was hot pink 😃 ). The colors I am wanting are orange and fuschia. Tangelo and fuschia to be precise. I think the colors are beautiful together but I’m curious as to how you all feel about it. Should I think of something more neutral? Should I just choose one? Any advice and/or opinions would be appreciated
This is the thing… if you are are going to have a photographer and you plan on cherishing your wedding photos and showing them to kids and grandkids… well… you MIGHT want more classic looks and colours. Up to you though.

I laugh at my mother in law’s wedding bridesmaid dresses… they look like something out of Star Trek (late 1970’s). Yikes!!! And he regrets them now. Her sister designed them because she was at some fashion school at the time. Har har!!

I have to say, I love your colours - they’re the colours that my bedroom is decorated in. If your potential bridesmaids love them too, then go for it.

Just as an aside, when my sister-in-law was picking her wedding colours, she sent fabric swatches to her three bridesmaids (who lived across the country) and told them they could pick any dress style they liked as long as it was one of those two colours. The bridesmaids looked beautiful, especially since they picked dresses in styles that suited them, and picked the more flattering of the two colours on their own skin tone.

my sister did something similar, found a dress in several shades of blue at a local dept. store, invited her bridesmaids to pick one those shades in their size, and I found a flowered dress in one of those shades for DD (flower girl). they looked great.

I think it sounds wonderful! Especially for a spring/summer wedding, bright flowery colors are perfect! My wedding was bright purple. 🤷 😛 😃

I say go for it!
Bright, loud, bold, individual, YOU!

The bridesmaids will only have to wear the dresses once, and contrary to some opinions, the day IS about you, as well as your DH. So if you like it, you want it, go for it!

It’s the different things that make such occasions special, that you and family will smile and laugh about later, rather than a cookie cutter, by the book wedding.

Example:

My Dh’s mother walked him down the aisle, and gave him away.
He walked in to “Tammy” by Debbie Reynolds, and everyone cried. (that’s my name, google it, it’s really sweet!).
His tie was string, not the standard of the rest of the groomsmen.
We had two seats reserved at the front by flowers, for missing grandparents, and a picture of them in the reception hall by the guest book.
I carried my grannys old, falling apart Bible, that she taught me to read from (Lords Prayer, and Psalm 23), wrapped in silk, and covered in flowers. Within, I tucked a photo of her, my grandaddy, and my daddy, all deceased.

It was a wonderful day, full of fun memories, just as it should have been. I had people telling me to hire a consultant, cater the reception, ties must be the same, the jackets weren’t formal enough, don’t do the ‘mom’ thing, ect, ect.
Please. It’s our wedding, our day, and as long as we please the Lord, the rest shouldn’t matter.

Have a wonderful wedding!

**As you can tell by this thread alone, everyone has an opinion;). So, go with what you and hubby want. Make sure than anyone actually having to wear a color is on board and just ignore the rest, lol.

Personally, I think your choice would be stunning! I bet there are a lot of brides out there who play it safe and end up wishing they had gone with their true desires instead of “toning it down” out of fear of what people might think or say.

Malia

p.s. don’t forget that you can always have some black and white portraits/pics done so that you can frame some that look a little more classic…**

i think you should use more of a champagne color for the dresses and accent them with orange and pink flowers, then use orange and pink for the decor.

Wow, felicity, you sound like you’re farther along in the wedding planning than I am–and we’re getting married *this *summer! 😛 I need to kick it into high gear with this planning!!

I saw the orange and fuchsia bridesmaid combo in a few recent magazines–if the bridesmaids (and of course the groom) are on board with the bright combo, I say go for it! This is the only time in your life you’re going to be able to elaborately plan every detail of *your *big party, so let it express *your *taste!

We’ve gone back and forth on many color schemes. This probably sounds silly, but I am quite the chocoholic, and I thought that a chocolate brown color was really beautiful, so right now we’re working on a ‘chocolate-themed’ reception. (My mom actually is the one who first verbalized this idea!)

Since it’s the summer (for a bit we thought we’d be having a winter wedding, and for awhile were thinking about other rich complementary tones), we’re matching up the chocolate brown with lots of clean white, a light minty green and some deep reddish/pink accents. I got this color inspiration from a beautiful photo of a floral arrangement, and flowers are honestly where a lot of the color is probably going to come in.

My bridesmaids are all of differing body types, skin tones, and modesty-comfort-levels. Also, our church requires that women’s shoulders be covered (I’m so thankful for this–it certainly takes the burden off of me to ‘enforce the rules’ for my bm’s who just don’t have exactly the same standards as I do). It really doesn’t matter to me much at all what dresses, shoes, etc. they wear–I am just so happy that they will be celebrating with me and supporting me on my wedding day, and I want them to be comfortable and have fun! 🙂 We are getting married in a cathedral, so I figure chocolate colored dresses will look the most suitable during the ceremony, but if fuchsia and pink work for your church, that’s a different story.

So we’re probably going with a separates line–David’s Bridal and Alfred Angelo both seem to have pretty good ones (in modesty and affordability), where they all can get the same color but can mix and match whatever tops they want. But I’m still looking around for good modest bm dress options…so we’ll see!

Finally, PatienceAndLove asked as well–but have you been over to Our Lady’s Brides yet? Come join our lovely little Catholic brides’ community! 😃

**Not to derail the thread but you know what would look so good together? A chocolate brown dress w/ a turquoise colored ribbon around the waist. I think it sounds really pretty together, just my opinion 😊 🤷

on the otherhand, to the OP, I chose more of a traditional theme because, well, I would always look at my mom’s wedding pics and laugh at the color choices, style, etc. But who knows, my own kids and grandkids might do the same even though I did a more ‘traditional’ color (burgundy/wine color)🤷

I say, go with your taste preference. My mom, the minute she saw my wedding dress that I had already picked out (the first dress I tried on I bought!) she said to me: “it’s definitely you, it’s sassy” I didn’t care that she said that , because it was my taste, and it did reflect my personality. If I figure it out I will scan a pic of it on here. **

Oh my goodness! You all have been so good to me thank you! As far as modesty goes I’m thinking about short coordinating jackets or shawls and I’m adding sleeves to my sleeveless dress 🙂 My church doesn’t have a no shoulders rule I would just be more comfortable covered up a bit in the house of God. The idea of flowers where the missing grandparents would be is incredible! I love the chocolate idea btw, I’ve seen a lot of pictures of the turquoise and brown and light pink and brown is beautiful as well. I’m really digging the idea of letting my girls pick dresses in the colors at Alfred Angelo. Luckily for me We are all fairly similar in body type (same height, same size frame) the only oddball is my sister 🤷 just because she has a drastically different hair color. I appreciate everyones honesty and support.

Oh! guess what! He picked a ring! He’s getting a 60% discount on a $1299 ring set because he knows the employee and he is planning on giving it to me on May 2nd of this year! (that’s our two year “anniversary” from when we started dating).

Felicity- I just wanted to say that last night I was at Michaels and they had a ton of stuff in the colors you are thinking about. DH and I met there and as I was lingering near the front of the store, I saw wedding favors and invites and all sorts of goodies in fuschia and tangelo.

muy romantico, everybody
just talked to a girl last night home from college, who was in my confirmation class a few years back, and had told me she had planned her perfect wedding when she was 10. now she anticipating engagement (and also med school, so who knows how that will go) and I asked her is she sticking with the same plan, down to the last detail, she said yes, of course. dream on, gals. that’s fine as long as you know that in life, we can plan every detail, but we are really in charge of only about 10% of the factors in any event.

hope you all spend as much time planning for the marriage as you do for the wedding, but in any case, enjoy yourself, and please let the guy have a little say so (maybe make a list of non-essentials that he can decide, so he feels good about it). Also your relationship with your prospective in-laws (not to mention your mom and sisters) during this period will influence your post-wedding relationship, so give that aspect the attention it deserves. OOH I love weddings, lots of romance in our adult confirmation class, between convalidations and engaged couples. Matrimony is maybe my favorite sacrament.
