NOT Suprised
Catholic was right next to mormonism for me spot 18 also not suprised that we believe 56% of things in common which is only 10% away from Mormons in my test at 45%. How close are your guys beliefs? I didn’t think they were that close.
Seventh day adventist
Church of God
Presbyterian

Roman catholic 100%
Orthodox 87%
Lutheran Missouri Synod 87%.

Stan
Same here, which is funny because of how passionately anti-catholic every MS Lutheran I’ve met has been… which is admittedly few. But still, I always ended up asking them why they weren’t just catholic since they practically are.

As an LCMS Lutheran, I’m truly sorry and dismayed that this has been your experience.
And I ask your forgiveness on behalf of my synod. There is no call for it. If LCMS President Harrison can go in front of Congress as refer to you as “our Catholic friends”, then no member should do less.

No need for apologies, my friend! Like I said, my interaction with the LCMS has been relatively small and I would never presume to judge all of them. It’s just something that jumps out at me since we’re so similar (so much so that we have a joint declaration on justification).

Admittedly, most of my interaction with LCMS members came from the old lusenet Catholic forum… which had only one moderator who had a very liberal view with regard to moderating posts. Things got more… heated there. Also, that was almost ten years ago, and the Catholic Church has become more friendly with other Christian churches as late too.

So on the bright side, I’ll amend my experience and think of you and President Harrison when the LCMS comes up from now on instead!

Peace be with you, Jon!

Sadly, the LCMS has not (yet) signed on to the JDDJ, but pray for the day. The problem for me is that these few have left you with an impression of the synod that I oppose. Both sides, admittedly, have these kinds, and I appreciate your charity in the matter.

Peace also with you,
Jon

That was fun:

Eastern Orthodox Church (100%)
Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (99%)
Evangelical Lutheran Church (91%)
Roman Catholic Church (87%)

I think my admiration for infant communion pushed me into the Orthodox camp - my feeling is that if any soul is fit to receive, it would be a baptized infant.

Actaeon, as with Jon, I do apologise as well for the treatment you received from LCMS members. I pray they have amended their ways in the meantime.

For me - I had the joyous opportunity to protest with Catholics about the HSS mandate and I was warmly received. And while I can’t kneel with Catholics at the same alter, I hope to be able to stand with my Catholic friends to protect our religious freedom.

I think it’s possible to be passionately anti-Catholic in terms of certain teachings and practices of that church, yet still be accepting of the people within that church both socially and when working together toward a common cause. I’m sure we all have friends with whom we passionately disagree on various matters.

The quiz was fun. It was interesting to try answering the questions from different perspectives to see what came out on top. That is, when I answered according to what I was taught while attending a Reformed Baptist church or from what I was told while studying with Jehovah’s Witnesses, those did indeed end up at the top of the list. I’m Anglican, but the quiz probably was using the more liberal Episcopal or Church of England positions on issues. When answering from a more conservative, “39 Articles” perspective, Episcopal/Anglican was about halfway down the list, with the top three being:

Presbyterian Church in America/Orthodox Presbyterian Church (100%)
Reformed Churches (100%)
Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (99%)

When answering honestly, with all my present uncertainties concerning dogma, I get:

Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (100%)
Church of Christ (90%)
Evangelical Lutheran Church (90%)
Presbyterian and Reformed were in the next tier down, at 86%.

This result also makes sense to me; I’ve always appreciated that Lutherans are not afraid to recognize that some Biblical doctrines seem contradictory to our human understanding. Hence, Lutherans maintain “both the *universalis gratia *and the sola gratia, fully and without any restrictions, because both doctrines are clearly revealed in Scripture. It leaves the intellectual difficulty unsolved for the present; it awaits the solution in yonder life.” (Christian Dogmatics, F. Pieper, vol. I, page 33).

My quiz results…

Roman Catholic Church (100%)
Eastern Orthodox Church (97%)
Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (88%)

Roman Catholic Church 100% :extrahappy:
Eastern Orthodox 86%
Lutheran Church Missuroi 79%

  1. Roman Catholic Church (100%)
  2. Eastern Orthodox Church (92%)
  3. Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (92%)
  4. Evangelical Lutheran Church (86%)
  5. International Church of Christ (79%)
  6. Mormonism (74%)
  7. United Pentecostal Church (74%)
  8. Church of Christ (72%)
  9. Episcopal/Anglican Church (72%)
  10. Methodist/Wesleyan Church (72%)
I also predicted Roman Catholic Church…
😛

100% Lutheran (ELCA)

100% Seventh Day Adventist (ridiculous, would never consider, because I abhor their legalism; I guess this is because I expressed no preference on a day of worship)

91% Episcopal/Anglican

91% Methodist/Wesleyan (very plausible, I’m totally UMC compatible)

91% Presbyterian (PCUSA) (however, I am not compatible because they take political stands I can’t accept, notably being in favor of gun control; I am a gun rights advocate, former staff member of a gun lobby)

I am in fact Lutheran (ELCA) and Episcopal (TEC), belonging to a church that’s formally affiliated with both.

I have a feeling that question 16, “Christ is physically present in communion”, is responsible for my results. More than likely the authors of this “quiz” mistakenly think that Catholicism believes or teaches this without realising that it is in fact heretical in that it denies transubstantiation. 🤷
