I don’t have to rely on Comcast (thank goodness!) for cable service, but I can relate to her anger at being jerked around by customer service.
This was after the company had scheduled installation of its much ballyhooed “Triple Play” service, which combines phone, cable and Internet services, in Shaw’s brick home in nearby Bristow. But Shaw said they failed to show up on the appointed day, Monday, Aug. 13. They came two days later but left with the job half done. On Friday morning, they cut off all service.
This was the company that has had consumer service problems serious enough to prompt the trade magazine Advertising Age to editorialize that Comcast and other cable providers should spend less on advertising and more on customer service. And has spawned a blog called ComcastMustDie.com that’s filled with posts from angry customers.

Boy, you would have thought my son wrote this article about his experience trying to get comcast for his college apartment. Sad but true. And the local office is not listed in the phone book either…if you need something from them, you have to go there in person…When he got his cable TV…they were suppose to install his internet service, howeve the installer for TV says he is not able to do any other services…bizarre. Then comcast said, his bldg was not wired for internet when it clearly was…More nightmares. When he tried to get his rebate, they said it didn’t apply in his instance. We give up. And the bad part is, they have the entire market sown up, No other service is available in his small college town.

They’ve been fine with me. In fact usually they are able to come ahead of schedule for installation. My only confusion has been with their billing cycles.

I am so blessed to have a choice for cable service here in my particular slice of Cleveland. WOW has been fantastic. (They also carry EWTN as part of their most basic tier of service. 👍)

I had the same problem of crummy service. They rescheduled me after I waited three weeks for hook-up and never advised me. Then the showed up as re-scheduled two weeks later and hooked up my internet. I wouldn’t have used them, except they are the only provider that will service me. AT&T tried three times to hook up DSL and three times called me back and said they couldn’t do it. Only I talked to an installation supervisor did I find out that their infrastructure is so antiquated as to not allow DSL.

I wonder if anyone out there has any business savvy at all.

I spent some time yesterday on the phone with Comcast’s customer service department. I am not a customer, but my father is and I am more familiar with the technical workings of my father’s computer than he is. We got his problem solved in about 15 minutes, and Comcast’s rep was sufficiently clear in her instructions that Dad probably could have worked it out with her without my assistance.

From this experience I would be willing to consider becoming a customer, except that I am not interested in cable television and their prices for telephone or broadband internet alone are more than I am paying now.
