If you know you are only supposed to take communion twice a day max and you take it 3 or 4 times, is that a sin?

I am not being rebellious, and it doesn’t happen often but I live alone and enjoy mass and I feel bad saying no to the Lord.

Thanks for any answers

If you

a) know that the Church has decreed that you may only receive twice a day (and that only if the reception is at a Mass rather than, say, a Communion Service) and

b) knowing that Christ gave the Church the power to bind and loose on such matters, ignore that decree …

then how exactly are you NOT being rebellious?

The reception of the Holy Eucharist delivers infinite graces to us, so one who wants to receive many times a day may not appreciate the sanctifying grace already received. Also not obeying the laws of the Church is not being humble, so involves at least a venial sin.

You may receive Holy Communion when you attend in one calendar day (midnight to midnight):
(1) two separate celebrations of the Holy Mass. [Canon Law # 917; C.C.C. # 1388]
(2) a regular daily Holy Mass and a funeral during which there is a Eucharistic celebration
(3) a regular daily Holy Mass and a wedding during which there is a Eucharistic celebration
(4) a regular daily Holy Mass and receive the Anointing of the Sick
(5) a regular daily Holy Mass and a Vigil Holy Mass.

Note the the vigil on the previous calendar day (midnight to midnight) is a different day.

Can. 917
A person who has already received the Most Holy Eucharist can receive it a second time on the same day only within the eucharistic celebration in which the person participates, without prejudice to the prescript of ⇒ can. 921, §2.

Can. 921
§1. The Christian faithful who are in danger of death from any cause are to be nourished by holy communion in the form of Viaticum.
§2. Even if they have been nourished by holy communion on the same day, however, those in danger of death are strongly urged to receive communion again.
§3. While the danger of death lasts, it is recommended that holy communion be administered often, but on separate days.

By desiring to receive multiple times, are you not, in essence, telling our Lord “No”, because His Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity “last time” were not sufficient? Would consuming a larger host, or taking a bigger sip bring you “more of Christ”? No! A tiny fragment; the merest sip is as complete a communion as any that ever occurred.

What you are doing is being knowingly disobedient, which is a sin. This desire, if not controlled, might risk becoming an unhealthy compulsion or obsession. We need receive communion only once per year (during the Easter season). Please discuss this with your Priest.
