Taking shirts off at a public pool

Hey! Let’s have a little sympathy for the 30% (or more) of men who have gynecomastia and won’t take off their shirts in public!

Definitely, most men are not lust-bait for women just because they take off their shirts to go swimming. And those furry shoulders? Now THAT’s a chastity pill, for sure!

I don’t think that women (unlike men) are attracted by bare chests.
I don’t think that is true at all. Many women like men with hairy chests or men with strong muscle-toned backs or men without shirts in general. I think men’s legs are attractive too but let’s not go there.😃

That said; this is a swimming pool so jump in and don’t worry about it. Women are not there to check out men. They are usually watching their own children swim.

Another reason that some of us wear a t-shirt is to avoid/minimize sunburn issues. I can say that I have never encountered a pool that would not allow me to keep on my t-shirt (and hat and sunglasses). Yes, I know that sunscreen can help. But, it doesn’t work so well on me sometimes–I burned through “Ozone” SPF75 and a t-shirt in 2 hours one–and the slick of sunscreen in the pool is no less a problem than whtever fuzz, etc. my (clean) shirt may bring.

I used to be a lifeguard. Anybody who wanted to swim was required to wear a swimsuit and T-shirts were not allowed, except for health reasons.
I am human which means that yes I do and did notice well formed bodies. That does not translate into a desire to sin since the purpose of clothing is first of all functionality. Swimming was why most of us were at the pool to begin with and my role was to insure pool safety.
I do remember one time when I was attending college in California. It was Spring and the men’s track team ran out of the locker room shirtless. I could not wait to get home to my husband.

Okay, this is a stupid question. Why aren’t t-shirts allowed? What is the reasoning behind that rule?

I don’t understand what a t-shirt worn over another swimsuit would do to harm swimmers. My daughters burn easily even with sunscreen, so I sometimes put shirts over their suits to give them further protection. WOuld they be exempt for health reasons?

I know at Carrowinds in order to ride the amusement rides at their water park you must wear swim suits. I don’t get that rule.🤷 If I don’t care if I get a t-shirt and shorts wet, why would anyone else care?

My son is very fair-skinned, plus his grandmother (my husband’s mother) died of malignant melanoma and it was explained to us that my children have a 25% chance of inheriting it, esp. my fair skinned son. So a T-shirt and sunscreen are a must for him.

is it wrong for a man to take his shirt off at a public pool? is this providing occassions of sin for women?
Well I sure as heck aint going in the pool with it on. 😉

I would think that it would be uncomfortable, but why would it be a health issue? If I want to jump in the pool with shorts and a t-shirt, is that unsanitary?

I am curious, not argueing.🙂
I don’t know. Strictly speaking it may not be illegal, but every public pool (or private owned pool open to the public, such as the YMCA) that I have seen has a strict set of hygienic regulations in force. Usually these include that swimmers must shower with soap before swimming and that street clothes may not be worn in the pool.

Not many years ago in some schools and the YMCA, the hygienic rules specifically spelled out that swimmers must shower nude before entering the pool, completely soaping, shampooing and rinsing their bodies, and must either wear a nylon swim suit or swim nude. This last option was not in mixed groups of swimmers, of course.

If the man has a nice chest I sure notice it!🙂 I always take the opportunity to thank God for the beauty of His creation.

A lot of women are more attracted to our arms than to our torso. Does that mean we shouldn’t wear short-sleeved shirts? Because I gotta tell you, I’m not thrilled about swimming in a long-sleeved shirt. And if I’m going to wear a long-sleeved shirt, it’d look better with a necktie. Plus a lot of women like my hair, so I’d better put on a hat – maybe a fedora. And I’ve got nice eyes, so I need some sunglasses to cover my eyes, too. Oh, and I’m 6’5" and a lot of women like tall guys, so I’d better shuffle around on my knees. Okay, I’m all set for the pool. Who says Christians are a bunch of weirdos?

I would be concerned with insulin resistance if you have visceral fat.
Nah, I ain’t that bad, just a few extra #s. 🙂

30% of men have gynecomastia, or 30% of men **that do have **gyenecomastia won’t take off their shirts in public?

For me, keeping my shirt on at a public pool is a work of mercy.

The reason I was mostly given as to why no T-Shirts had to do with the dye in the shirts. I more often lifeguarded at indoor pools than at outdoor pools. For the few occasions when shirts were allowed, they had to be white with no logo. There were also the theads from cutoffs that could become tangled in the filter systems. These were the same reasons for swim caps.
The dresscode was more about wearing the proper clothing specifically set aside for the activity; and not “street clothing.”
Lifeguards of course wore shorts and identifying T-Shirts, especially at the lake where we drank plenty of water and used suntan lotion to keep from burning. Dresscodes were more lenient at the lake where we didn’t need to worry about filter systems.

actually, more like .02% has male gynecomastia

the other 45% are just portly, fat, jolly guys.

well there is a difference between liking someone’s hair and being in risk of sin to look at someone’s bare chest. Several women have posted that they are attracted to bare chests, but is it a temptation for sin?

I think that this depends on the individual woman. I am a strange person because I can look at a well toned body-male or female- and appreciate the beauty without automatically having sexual thoughts. I have found people attractive in a sort of aesthetic(spelling?) without being attracted to them-if that makes sense.

So, if you are well built, I might glance and appreciate your form without having any sexual thoughts about you.

Before resorting to this thread I always assumed that my hairy back would be a definite near occasion of sin for most women therefore I never removed my shirt. But since I now see that most women would not be forced to receive reconciliation immediately following an encounter with my pot belly and hairy back I feel once again freed from another enslavement that I harbored for years…God Bless the OP and all of you…teachccd 🙂 😃
