Might be a very weird question but…can I talk with a Saint? Not asking for intercession, just talk with a Saint. For ex, I often ask Saint Elizabeth of Hungary to help me with my studies, yesterday I thought…I know about her life because I read about her, but what does she know about me? Is it okay if I just talk to her about what happened to me today or about what I like or not like, who I am… can I do this? Can she hear me? If I talk to her the whole Heaven listen also? Maybe she already knows everything that happened in my life? Also…she is a canonized saint…what about the people that are in Heaven as saints but are not canonized? My own grandma could be a saint but I don’t know it, can I talk to her ?

First off I’d have to say talk to your priest

Secondly I would have to say just be careful. Discerning Spirits is a fine art. If you aren’t careful you might end up talking to a demon. Just be careful friend

The short answer is yes, you can. I often talk with Saints, especially with the Blessed Mother; when I feel the need.

Of course you can talk to any saint you like. Saints are your friends. If you feel particularly close to a saint or you want to get to know one better, you can talk to them just as you would a friend.
This is the purpose of saints, to be our heavenly friends. Friends talk to each other.

It is likely that just as God allows St. Elizabeth of Hungary to hear your prayers, God probably also allows her to know the background on you, so you don’t need to explain your whole life to her in order for her to best pray for you. As for “the whole Heaven listening”, God listens, and if he thinks someone in Heaven needs to know he’d make sure it happened. It may be that he has others in Heaven listening to you, it may be that he has them doing other tasks, just let him handle it.

As for talking to your grandma, yes you can do that just as if she were on earth. My parents and husband are dead, I have great hope they are in heaven, I talk to them frequently.

Talking to a saint is not “discerning spirits”. The OP does not appear to be trying to call up her grandma to appear in her front room, nor is she trying to contact grandma through a Ouija board. There is nothing wrong, scary or dangerous with her talking to her grandma whom she reasonably believes is in Heaven, in the same way one might talk to St. Elizabeth, St. Therese, St. Jude etc.

The Church teaches that we may ask for help from anyone we reasonably believe is in heaven. We don’t have to worry about getting a demon on the line when we make these chatty requests for help.

Plus, unless I was taught incorrectly, we can also ask said grandparents to intercede for us. If they are in Heaven, all good, if they are in Purgatory it is still not wasted. Someone please correct me if I am wrong though. I know we should also continue to pray for them, if they are not Cannonized.

I understand that as we are allowed to pray for the souls in Purgatory, they also can pray to God for us if we ask them to. So I believe you are correct

I talk with Saints all the time and I love to do it. I talk to Our Lady and Saint Clare all the time.

They are your brothers and sisters, so yes, i would encourage you to talk to them. If they answer you back vocally, “be as cautious as a snake…”(Mt 10:16) about it.
They are with God, and have become like Him, so can hear the things addressed to them.

Yes, the saints are our heavenly friends and family. They love us very much and care deeply about us and want us to talk to them, no matter how small the issue is. We can talk to them both formerly and informally.

God doesn’t misdirect calls to hell. When entering prayer we should have absolutely zero fear, and we can be in a state of prayer 24/7.

That’s an interesting subject I’d love to know more about.

Let’s remember that we are indeed “surrounded by a cloud of witnesses” and that the saints and Holy Souls care about us and pray for us. We are not alone! Cultivate friendship with the saints and angels. Talk to them and expect their help.
