No. If you read the story that inspired the movie The Exorcist, you’ll see where the priests worked with the boy to catechize him so he could convert and receive the Eucharist. Until he was received into the Church, they taught him to receive spiritual communions.

Somewhere between fact and fiction lies the truth. Below is the Google link for a site that tries to debunk the Exocist myth. Being from a skeptical perspective, it completely discounts the entire story and all exorcisms as old wives tales.

We know that Christ and the Apostles casts out demons throughout the Gospels. I don’t doubt that there are some around in this day and age. Would our OP- Mystic Warrior care to comment about the skeptics ? Have you seen or experienced real supernatural occurances or are the events limited to a bit of cursing and puking and otherwise natural events ?

in that link is talks about a skeptical author:

“A recent book on the topic (American Exorcism: Expelling Demons in the Land of Plenty By Michael Cuneo, Doubleday, 2001) found no reason to think anything supernatural occurred in the “real” exorcist case, or any other. After attending fifty exorcisms, Cuneo is unequivocal about the fact that he saw nothing supernatural—and certainly nothing remotely resembling The Exorcist. No spinning heads, levitation, or poltergeists, though maybe some cursing and a little puking now and then.”

while i can’t be sure, i highly doubt he attended any Catholic exorcisms. the fifty he attended could have been by snake handlers under a tent.

Yes. Read this account of an exorcism for more details. The woman’s body flew up and stuck on the wall, began to bloat to the point that they thought she might pop, and other really strange things happened.

It is strange that Catherine Emmerich mentioned a similar period, when she gave a description of Christ’s descent into hell after His death upon the cross. She related that "when the portals of hell were opened by the angels, there was a terrible uproar, cursing, scolding, howling and moaning. Individual angels were hurling hordes of evil spirits aside. All were commanded to adore Jesus. This caused them the greatest pain. In the center of it all there was a bottomless abyss as black as night. Lucifer was bound in chains and cast into this depth of darkness. All this happened in accordance with set laws. I heard that Lucifer, if I am not mistaken, would again be freed for a time about fifty or sixty years before the year 2000 A. D.

i wouldn’t get too caught up in that. the devil is the father of all lies.

Probably. This is why it’s unwise to engage in conversations with demons. This exorcism happened 81 years ago, so whoever this demon was referring to is either dead or very old by now.

I say the Our Father and the Hail Mary every day. Other than that I speak from my heart. I thank God for His blessings and spill my guts. Every night my 11 and 8 year old and I pray the Our Father together. They know it in Latin and English. I also teach them about the Blessed Mother and they have a devotion to her. Other than that, I also have made up my own prayers for protection and deliverance. If you want me to share those I can do so.

Particularly, I usually pray this protection prayer that I mixed from other prayers I have seen and ideas which come from my experiences with darkness:

“I break every curse, hex, spell and ritual sent against me and my family (I name them). Heavenly Father, I ask that our guardian angels will protect our minds, bodies and spirits while we sleep. May they surround us with love and light and chase away any nightmares.”

Just browsing this thread and reading. Impressive your devotion to our Blessed mother, and teaching your children too. When you decide the time is right to convert, you will help so many people in the CC as well. I doubt your work will cease, probably just change. God Bless you and be with you in your work.

Oh yes, I have that prayer on my blog. It’s not what I usually prayer in my prayer time. I use it primarily in warfare. St. Michael is my one of my guardians. He is a very large angel with light colored hair and has a sense of humor. He’s a good friend.

If you can not avoid using imprecatory prayer at least limit your use of it to only when it is necessary.
