Fortunately, the altar wine we use in our parish tastes OK. I’m not a wine snob, so I don’t know much about different tastes, and I don’t want to get off track, but in other places I’ve been, the wine has been so off-flavor or bitter that it detracts (for me) from the sacrament, especially when the taste stays around for a while.
Sacramentally, taste has no effect one way or another, of course. I’ve also had thoughts that bitter wine serves it’s own purpose, perhaps to remind us of the bitter nature of Christ’s treatment during his sacrifice.
No point here, just some random thoughts on a Saturday morning.
