Neither! I really dont know. I got my tattoo before I came back to the Church and have heard conflicting reasonings since. However my opinion is this, the crucifix around my neck NEVER leaves me, I wake up with it, I shower with it and I sleep with it, my tattoo obviously also never leaves me. I see no difference. As far as damaging the Temple of the Holy Spirit, yes I agree thats exactly what is happening but so is any sin, the Temple of the Holy Spirit is your soul thats where the Holy Spirit dwells, therefor any sin is damage to your body, the Temple of the Holy Spirit. I wanted to get a second tattoo, but not having a clearer understanding of what the Church teaches I refuse to get another one. I guess we will all find out the gravity of the sin on Judgment day!

God Bless.

Very interesting, good! To answer you question or rather your statement on sin and tattoos and their similarities i can safely say that they are both different and the same. They are different, because, when commiting sin, one needs to be forgiven, the only to be forgiven is to have that firm purpose of ammendment, and that can be more readily achieved. With tattoos the tattoo is more permanent, you go in knowing it is permanent, so it is not as readily rectified as, sin being absolved. Although it is possible getting removed, i think that that would be a beautiful sign of repentence, in the way of redemptive suffering 🙂 I am glad to see that you will not be getting another:tiphat: God BLess You!!!

So because one knows its permanent, it is a sin? I had no idea it was a sin when I received my tattoo. ALso becuase its permanent, are you saying it cant be forgiven unless you have it removed? If your answer is yes, some priests I know would be mortified to know this is what you think. Before I go any further I want to know what your stance is on the forgiveness of the sin of receiving a tattoo!

Sure, Firstl, the Church has not definitavely said “getting tattoos are sinful.” I won’t get in the way of the Church, I am not infallible, nor am i God, so i cannot definitavley say in the place of the Church “this is sinful”, what i am saying is this. I believe from what i have read in the Catechism, what i have been taught as a Catholic, and using deductive logic (which i am not great at;) ), i believe with incredible confidence that the objective nature in recieving a tattoo is an immoral act, and quiet possibly sinful. Just because i belive it is sinful doesn’t make me necessarily correct, nor would it be correct to say the same of another individual who believes it is not sinful or immoral. There is an objective truth to be sure, in this topic. However i have given my position which i believe with great confidence to be true. wheww!!! :bigyikes:

Now, given those circumstances, i do not believe you are “unforgiven,” indeed, if there is anything to be forgiven of. You seem to me to be a great individual, and contrite, and i do not dare to take the place of a Jesus in judging you.
Also becuase its permanent, are you saying it cant be forgiven unless you have it removed?
My intention for talking about tattoos and the permant nature of it was not to cast judgment upon the state of your soul. It was intended to draw a correlation between tattoos, Sin, and the Firm purpose of ammendment, and **how like sin, which can be more readily absolved, tattoos are not as readily and easily reversed, corrcted etc. SIN SHOULD NOT BE PURSUED AS PERMANTLY AS A TATTOO IS. IN FACT DON’T MAKE SIN PERMANENT!!🙂 🙂 **

Sorry that was a bit longwinded! It was done for clarity purposes
:blessyou:

Myangel,
I hope i answered you questions well enough??!:yup: :ehh:

Thanks for your explanation. Although tattoos are not as readily and easily removed, the sin of getting one is! My belief is, no sin is easily reversed in fact its never reversed, its forgiven, but not reversed. Hence purgatory! In the end all sin has the same effect, our Lord is offended.

Another reason I find Catholics are against tattoos is the reasoning of rising body and soul. Someone once said “But father when receiving a tattoo, it would have to be offensive to the Lord seeing when we enter the kingdom of Heaven we enter with body and Soul” the priest answered “Would our Lord allow a paraplegic (on earth) to enter the kingdom of Heaven in his earthly state?” Answer of course is no. I am a firm believer of purgatory, and most will have to be purified of all sins prior to entering Heaven, therefor my tattoo, will vanish no matter how permanent it is here on earth.
