Hasn’t been that for over a hundred years, since the federal adoption of crony capitalism during the industrial age. Sorry to break it to you.
👍

The rich get richer, the poor get free money and healthcare and those in the middle pay for both.

I’d prefer to see the whole ball of wax melt down too!👍

That is simply not true. We are still free, we can still create, we can still worhsip as we please. Yet, if we destroy this nation, than all of that goes away. It is much smarter to fix the nation, rather than destroy it…and the nation can only be fixed if we are willing to compromise with those people we disagree with and improve this nation one step at a time. You think it is 1776 again…it is not.

Wow. You know not what you speak of…not one single clue.

So, it is either your way, or the USA should be destroyed. Okay, that is your absolutist pov…I strongly disagree and so does the Catholic faith. We are to work to make the culture better, but we should not be standing behind the destruction of a nation or the death of many millions just to serve our own notion of what the nation should be.

You create much fear in me because I think many people in the Tea Party are just like you. They live in a bubble with a Glen Beck fantasy of raising our founders from the dead and re-implementing what the TP’ers see as the real USA. The problem is China, or Russia or some other people will simply step-in to take over the mess you leave.

As Catholics we are called to live in the world and try to make it better…not to drive us towards another civil war that will only result in millions dead and the USA gone forever.

Be very careful what you wish for…
I don’t know that I see it as apocolyptically as Scott, but I believe he sees a grave threat to the our foundational principles - principles based on the natural law as first espoused by Aristotle, then built upon by Aquinas, which are continually affirmed by magisterial teaching.

That pretty much sums it up. 👍
The nation either goes the way YOU want, or everyone can die in the flames. Right?

I think you represent the Tea Party mentality quite well. Give me my way, or give us all death. No compromise…we are ALL in or we ALL die.

I think the only way to fix it is by breaking it up. and no, its not 1776. It much worse. 😦

Destroying the country will just mean we all either die, or we live in nearly unlivable conditions and NO freedom forever. That is a gamle you are willing to take.
Any are you drawing false conclussions?

So, if you cannot get your way, than you wish for the USA to go away and for everyone you know to die or to be placed in chains. Right?

I think you represent the big nanny-government statist position perfectly. “Do things OUR way or we will throw you in prison.” I’d prefer not to be the lap dog of an overbearing ruling class.

Wrong about me. I want real change too. I just don’t think we need to push things to utter ruin, while you seem to think that is fine.

No, I wish that politicians actually listened to the people they claim to represent. But when candidates come along that are committed to this ideal, the establishment (from both parties) comes with guns blazing. And can you PLEASE stop drawing the false conclussion that if states were to secede from the union that the world will catch on fire and Earth will be driven back to the stone age.

I never said that is what I WANT. I said that I am comfortable with it if that is what it comes to. Hey, I was where you are 5-6 years ago. I was a diehard GOP and Bush supporter. I have come to the firm conclussion that parties cause more harm than good, that there is a ruling class of wealthy elite who have no interest in individual freedom, and that the idea of “nation” is just a mind game that the ruling class uses to guilt trip you into bowing to their demands. I don’t play that game anymore. Look up old posts of my old username Apologia100. It will bear out what I am telling you.

I’ve not really read in depth about the scandalous past she’s supposedly had…only heard and read bits and pieces. What I did read, was that some of these “charges” against her are trumped up by her opponent. “Politics as usual”. I think maybe the proof will be in the pudding. Are these solid facts or is some of it fabricated? I did read also that the Republicans treated her disgracefully. They have been fighting her and hitting below the belt.

People in general are totally fed up with both parties, and to tell you the truth, ANYONE could do a better job that what we’ve seen in the past 10 years and actually longer than that! It’s time to go out on a limb, Americans to get off their duffs and FIGHT FOR THIS COUNTRY, otherwise there will be no more USof A. It’s WAY past time to CLEAN HOUSE…WAY PAST TIME.
She disputes some of the charges, but it is undisputed that she has lied publicly for years about having a college degree–she just recently finished it after her opponents called her on the lie. It is also undisputed that she lied in public and in court documents about being accepted to Princeton’s graduate program when, at the time, she didn’t have an undergraduate degree. There are disputed claims that she lied about her many financial problems and about living off of donated money. From what I have read, the claims were not made lightly.

The problem is not that she has had financial problems or that she took a long time to finish her degree - both are common and not a big deal. The fact that she repeatedly and willfully lied to the public, her employers and to a court of law about these things is a big deal, at least to me. She can’t run from this stuff forever and it makes her unelectable.

If the GOP wants to clean house and put outsiders in office, I say great. But can’t they find someone to put on the ballot without a documented history like this?

I, personally, are getting rather tired of the self-righteous, pontificating primadonas that we have had for the last hundred years. I like the fact that she has baggage. It means she is more like me than some polished elitist who I cannot identify with.

I fully concur!!

I just read this:

news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_upshot/20100915/el_yblog_upshot/who-is-tea-party-sensation-christine-odonnell

which said this:

‘As she explained to the Wilmington News Journal in 2004, she did “things she regrets” in college, such as drinking to excess and becoming somewhat sexually promiscuous. Those regrets spurred her to promote chaste values, and to seek out a national forum to advance related policy aims such as abstinence education.’

Such candor! I actually appreciate a woman who is strong enough, humble enough to admit such things, to the American people no less! And she’s apparently learned from her lessons in life…

States CANNOT pull away from the union. That case was forever settled during the civil war. Any state could try, but they will not be allowed to leave. Deal with that reality.

The world will catch fire if the USA falls apart.

Yes, honest she is…I give her that too. Yet, she has also said she does not need the GOP to win…what utter nonsense.

It is funny, the Tea Party acts all righteous and independent, but they walk around on the backs of the GOP…using the GOP to get ahead. How honest is that?

Everyone has a history.

I agree that we need to make changes, or else foundational principles will be lost. Yet, we should be working together, not fighting each other. Tea Party people have no compromise in them…and a house divided wins nothing.
