I heard this on the radio yesterday but have not been able to find a link to the story anywhere.

Apparently, in Fairfax, VA, the students and PTA of a public school decided to have a baccalaureate (which they said includes an opening prayer) in a local church and to invite a much loved teacher to speak. The school board has a policy against teachers speaking at baccalaureates and has forbidden her to do it.

I feel sorry for this teacher. Any thoughts?

…off school grounds?:hmmm:

… well, i guess you could say by her presence she is representing the school… i don’t know, i wish you could find the link.:hmmm:

I wish I could too! As soon as I find a link, I’ll certainly post it. My question is, can they forbid the teacher from speaking and NOT forbid the PTA from sponsoring the event? How can a teacher’s faith or religious practices be forbidden by a public school?

It is interesting that there are several court cases in progress - re whether an employer can control what an employee does in his spare time.

A particular case of interest is a Budwieser delivery man who was fired when observed drinking a Coors - the waitress had brought it to him by mistake and he didn’t want to cause a fuss.

Unless he showed up to work drunk, it shouldn’t matter!!!

“The school board has a policy against teachers speaking at baccalaureates”

That is the rule, and the rule does not violate the natural law. Big whoop.

It’s not worth a fuss.

He shouldn’t have drank it, it’s a matter of company loyalty and dishonesty to support your competition.
