Spaceghost I have seen numerous references that state the 100000 casualty figure was a made up number based on extrapolating some small amount of data. There are apparently verifiable tallies in the area of 17000-20000. Not that one dead innocent isn’t one too many but the idea that the US is in there slaughtering the innocent is pretty unfounded. Further, it’s the terrorists who are now killing the innocents. Do you think that effort would decline if we left? Maybe I’m too fixated on the sights when we left Vietnam, people begging, crying, handing their children off the strangers, anything to get them OUT of the country. I work with a man married to a Vietnamese woman. She said following our departure it was a hideous situation with many innocents killed as the Viet Cong took over. Plus for YEARS afterward, those who had cooperated with the US were persecuted, jailed, killed.

I just think it would be WORSE if we left than if we stay.

…and don’t forget the other Holocaust in Cambodia that followed our departure. War is terrible but people need to have the will to fight whenit’s necessary.

If the new government of Iraq wants us gone, were history. The President has said so publically. My bet is they will ask us to help keep the peace until they can get on their feet. Want to take that bet?

Again, the Vatican wants us there.
we shall see, i have no doubt he would jump at that opportunity though, that way he escapes blame if your fear of riot and civil unrest insue…

i also have no doubt we will probably be there for years, but not as watch dogs however, but as oil barons…👍

Oil is the whole reason we are there, IMO…👍

If you want to speak to the oil barons, better start learning French.

Does your brother feel the same way as you? Just curious.

space ghost:
well, we have killed over 100,000 innocents in iraq, i guess you subscribe that to kill more innocents is the answer… we have killed more than the prior dictator did…

peace:thumbsup:

every reliable new source out there… even on the internet… your resourseful, i’m sure you can find… look farther than Fox News…
The source for that bogus statistic is a Lancet article that has already been thoroughly debunked, see below:
fumento.com/military/lancetscripps.html

Even anti-war groups like the Human Rights Watch and Iraqbodycount.com cite figures closer to 15,000-17,000.

With all due respect, space ghost, you need to do your homework a little better. :tsktsk: The most conservative figures put the number of Saddam’s people that he murdered closer to the range of 350,000. Others say up to 1,000,000. This is excluding all those he killed in his 8-year war with Iran and his later invasion of Kuwait.

if you speak of the brother that is currently in the Abu Gharib Prison(not sure i spelled that right) working as a contrator, believe it or not, he does… now, he and I differ on other subjects, but he too feels we have no business in Iraq…

He is a retired Staff Sgt (23yrs) with the United States Air Force… His duties before he retired a couple of years ago was Special Ops… He operated in that capacity during the first gulf war… He is there now for the $$$$$$… I wish they would send his butt home…

I am afraid to watch the news at night thinking I might see his face and the new-and-improved kidnapped victim…
The money is so good, this ding dong is considering a second year…

Our dear sweet mother will probably die if she heres he’s going to do a second year…

Keep him in your prayers, and thanks for asking…👍

i have not read your source, but Time Magazine, is the last place i saw the figure, and Meet the Press with Tim Russert is where I heard the number when he was interviewing a couple of former Chief’s of staff…👍

i find it interesting you would quote "Saddam’s" people as a source

How many thousands of native americans did we genocide…

Sorry INRI… doesn’t wash…:tsktsk:

Both Time and Russert were quoting the number based on the now discredited Lancent article. That is the only original source I know of for that number. It is bogus, please don’t use it anymore.

👍

Neither does your understanding of English grammar. I think the context of the sentence makes it clear that I was not quoting “Saddam’s people”. The Native Americans population was largely decimated by smallpox, not by European or American weaponry. Indeed contemporary reports by settlers moving west indicated that some had thought that the land had been already cleared of Natives before they arrived. You get the tsk, tsk for not reading my source before responding.:tsktsk:

…get out…

If the Govt wishes to save face (for the mess they created) let THEM send THEIR children…start with Bushes two daughters and Cheneys daughter…hey its perfect…the Govt says women can be in combat…lucky girls

Time to get out and let these people decide for themselves if they wanna fight for themselves…but we know they aint pulling out…its ALL ABOUT the OIL…its ALWAYS about the OIL.

Your post is analogous to a story Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt used to tell - when asked what were her most vivid memories of the War - with all her traveling, all she’d done and seen, she told the story of going through the President’s mail which was volumninous in those days (no email) and reading one where they wished her sons ill in the war. She said it simply was one of the cruelest things she’d ever had done to her. Some things never change I guess. I sincerely hope you never hold a position of responsibility and have to risk the welfre of others.

That’s a subject you need to take up with the UN - they know a lot about that subject but they aren’t talking. Perhpas with your “way with words” you can send a letter and get some action.
